This was incredibly fun to do.
I never really play around with dramatic colors in skin tones, so I tried to loosen up a bit here. I loved, loved, LOVED doing his eyes. SO much fun. Drawing airbrushed models is so overrated. Angry, angry Erik. It's like Hungry, Hungry Hippo, but more painful.
Prismacolor markers, colored pencils, and india ink.

I don't know why everyone was scared of Erik's face. I don't know why they thought he was ugly. I always kinda thought he was very beautiful. I thought he looked handsome, ya know? I dunno. That's my point of view. lol. But O love how you portray him in your drawings. Very well done!!!

I really love how you draw with the zany colours. Do you just slap whatever colour on or do you deliberately choose the colours?

Thank you! You know, I used to avoid different colors in skin tone like the plague, but a bunch of my artist friends went wild with it, so one day I was like, "Hmm. I'm just going to put some green there and see what happens." And it's so much fun! I deliberately choose them, based on colors that actually are found in skin tones, but it's obviously exaggerated here.

You're pretty amazing.
When I read Leroux's book, I could never quite put the image of 'death's head' in my mind, but you have made it very clear how truly repulsive he was.
And it makes me cry to think that that was the only reason he was hated. Yeah, he was crazy but that was a result of years without human contact or love.

That is so amazing! Like a mix of horror and fascination and beauty. I really have no words to describe this properly. It's not ugly; more like... strangely gorgeous.

Usually when I see pictures of Erik unmasked its one of two reactions: cringe in horror; or "it's not THAT bad!" With this picture, its kind of like a creepy kind of beauty. "eerily elegant" is about as good a description you can get.

I love the coloring! How you manage to make colored pencils and markers look so beautiful, I will never know. (I go ape with those things. It's like my first three years of life all over again.)
