Description Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, Jolly Not-World's-End to you all! Things have been a bit stressful the last few weeks, so I'm a bit behind on the season's greetings. (You should see my Christmas cards. D: Still got some sitting on the worktable! orz

Anyhow, decided to jump on the Rise of the Guardians band wagon because the books are amazing. I enjoyed the movie as well, but I ADORED those books. Hence why I have opted for a more youthful Nicholas St. North attempting to subdue the mighty Krampus! (LOOK HIM UP! SUCH HOLIDAY FUN!) And because it will surprise NO ONE: Yes, there is Pitch art on the way. Mmmmmmm sympathy-for-villain.

More pencil work with colors in potatoship because I have too much fun this way. Critique is welcome.

---------------------
Nicholas St. North belongs to William Joyce.
The Krampus belongs TO NONE.

Isn't he just the best?!Ā  I would love to be able to get to one of the cities that does parades for him, but I am also kinda scared out of my mind about it. XDĀ  (Oh, that and I would have to get to Europe because we don't have such evil fun around here.)

Krampus is actually one of Santa's helpers.Ā  How else do you think Krampus gets access to the Naughty List to know which kids to punish?

Bringing pain and misery to all the spoiled rotten bullies and brats of the world...Krampus is a hero in my book.

I only know a smattering of the traditions surrounding him, so I won't call myself an expert by any means.Ā  It was my understanding that St. Nicholas first subdued the demon Krampus and then made him one of his helpers.

And please don't get the wrong idea, I think the world needs things like the Krampus.Ā  He is a justice-bringer, albeit in a slightly twisted sense.

I like the youthful Nicholas you have here. I need to read the books apparently. Ā

Love their designs, looking forward to the Pitch artwork!Ā

They books are very good.Ā  I highly recommend them.Ā  They are also children's books, so it isn't like they are a long read.Ā  Shorter than any of the Harry Potters by far.

That would be utterly epic, but I have the feeling if there is a sequel they will draw from the books (which are sadly lacking in Krampus thus far).

And thanks very much for the fave!

joshuarmour15 In reply to Murielle [2013-02-22 12:18:37 +0000 UTC]

true. But it would still be utterly epic, despite the lack of krampus in books. As for faving, I have to say, you deserve it.

This is great! X) But it makes me think... The Krampus works for Pitch! Yes.

Murielle In reply to flutepiccy [2013-02-01 06:27:33 +0000 UTC]

Oh absolutely. Really, the Krampus is very much like Pitch. Both force children into behaving through the use of fear.

And thanks very much for the fave!

First of all, I hate you! Why do you have the books?! And I donhohohon't! OK, sorry for the outburst. Who is the Krampus? Your (fantastic) picture made me wonder...

Murielle In reply to casuallyfallen [2013-02-01 06:17:31 +0000 UTC]

I'll let you in on a secret: I don't have the books, I got them from the library.

The Krampus is a monster from some Alpine countries who comes to punish/scare/take away naughty children when St. Nicholas comes to give good children presents. He is lotsa fun. Look him up a bit. ;D

Wow, I'm from an Alpine country and this is the first time I hear about him. Shame on me "-.-

I have to admit, I only know about him as far as wiki and an odd little folklore book I have tell me. XD

casuallyfallen In reply to Murielle [2013-02-02 22:18:49 +0000 UTC]

I'd better do some research, then. Thanks

flutepiccy In reply to casuallyfallen [2013-01-29 21:35:07 +0000 UTC]

The Krampus was explained to me basically as the Anti-St. Nicholas. On December 5th, if a child was bad over the past year, first of all, St. Nicholas wouldn't leave them anything. Secondly, the Krampus would come, kidnap the child, drag them to the edge of town, and beat them with chains and sticks.

This is disturbing... wow, never heard of that. Better be a good child, then. It is quite the showdown

flutepiccy In reply to casuallyfallen [2013-01-31 01:07:52 +0000 UTC]

It is disturbing to imagine. Even more-so when people dress up as the Krampus. And it is quite the showdown.

Jesus christ. I've only read North's story. QuQ Dang he was such an amazing santa. <333
Though I'm much more excited to read Bunnymund's story, which will take a long while because my cousin's a slow-reader. QnQ
This is damn awesome. <3333 Poor Krampus though. xD

Murielle In reply to KrowLethal [2013-01-07 05:42:49 +0000 UTC]

The books are quite a nice read, but don't worry you are not that far behind. North only gets more awesome in my opinion even if the other books focus on him a little less. Although sadly, we have had no Krampus show up in them...yet. But I can always hope.

Thank you very much for the fave!

Pity.. Krampus could be a lil side-scrolling villain if he was in it.. even if he was Santa's ex-helper. XD

And you're very welcome. c:

Do not look on everything with modern sensibilities. He was not always mean. He even took on the roll of st. nicholas from time to time. The end of the year was not always a pleasant time.
