okay. im tired of Raikou being called a "Legendary Dog". lets get things straight. HES A TIGER, NOT A DOG! see the similarities?Raikou:
1. Black Stripes
2. White "beard"
3. Tiger-like snout
4. Saber Toothed Tiger like teeth
5. Blue nose
6. Long Tail
7. Big Paws
Tigers:
1. Black Stripes
2. White "beard"
3. Blue nose (some have blue noses, but thats quite rare)
4. Related to the Saber Tooth Tiger
5. Long Tail

7. Saber like teeth
how can a dog have stripes? its normal for a dog to have SPOTS, but not stripes. i never seen a dog with stripes. you can call Suicune a dog, but not Raikou. he looks NOTHING like a dog.
& Entei looks more like a Lion than a dog. Suicune looks more dog like. call Suicune a dog, not Raikou...maybe Entei...idk.
Raikou = Legendary CAT/TIGER
Entei = Legendary DOG/LION/THINGY
Suicune = Legendary DOG/SPOTTED LEOPARD THINGAR
NOW THATS SETTLED. QUIT CALLING HIM A DOG. HES A FUCKIN TIGER!! >O Unless someone can give me Scientokemon (not a real word XD) PROOF that hes a dog.

I agree! The first time I saw Raikou I thought "Hey, they made a tiger pokemon, uber cool." And I thought the same for Entei being a lion, BUTT Suicune looks like a dog-thingy to me. He really didn't give me that 'Hey-that-looks-like-a-cat-look. lol

Raikou is a tiger. Period. Calling Raikou a "dog" is like calling Archanine a "tiger": its insulting to the intelligence level of even that of a child. Heck, my little cousins can look at ALL the Legendary Beasts and see that they are based off of cats. (Entei=Lion)(Suicune=Cheetah).

i think Suicune is a mix between a cheetah & a wolf. hes more cheetah like, but the snout just throws me off. so for suicune, i calls him either a dog or a cat. entei, a lion.

Actually,I have some proof ^^ Raikou is based off the legendary tiger/dog demon of China,and Entei is based off of a Shisa,part lion,part dog,like Arcanine,but with more lionish details,and Suicune is based off of not a legend,but a hybrid that they made,between a maned wolf (her shape) a leopard (her ruby-like dots) and a unicorn (her powers).So you do have a point,they arin't dogs,but the're not cats eather,the're Beasts.

But if you look at Entei's body, it is more like a dog then a cat. Yes his head with the mane and all looks like a Lion, but not his body. Could Entei for some strange reason be both a Legendary Dog and Cat hybrid?

its possible, but i think hes more lion like. the paws & the "mane" are lionish to me. tho the fact he doesnt have a tail (but can still learn Iron Tail) is strange.

I agree with InuMimi. They are the legendary beasts. They have been called the legendary dogs. And even the legendary cats. But the correct thing that they are called is the legendary beasts.
Here is what they really are:
Raikou = Legendary TIGER
Suicune = Legendary Wolf
But Entei is the one that is really confusing. Is he a legendary dog or a legendary cat?

Yeah, I know what you mean. They were intended to be Fudogs which were what the Chinese thought lions looked like from what travelers told them long ago. They look like cat/dogs in a way. And people must have seen only the word dog to think that they were canine. XD Suicune looks the most canine because it was designed after a cheetah which have alot of dog-like features. Lawl! Poor Raikou, his face is adorable!

I agree, it's annoying, he looks nothing like a dog, but, on the show I'm really sure they called the three of them legendary dogs, so I'm going with that. Though as I recall in my video game they called the three of them cats. But I haven't played that game in years and could be wrong. x3

Its an insult to Raikou to call him a dog. Originally in the G/S/C era they were nicknamed "dogs" and said to "bark" but notice in the newer games they've changed it? It now says Raikou "roars". Dogs do not roar. Big cats do. RAWR!
It probably was originally a translation thingy error... that they subsequently cleared up. Good thing they did too

You have a valid point. Raikou does resemble something bigger and more ferocious(?) than the humble dog. "Legendary Dog" could be another translation error which games translated from Japanese are prone to.
I have seen a dog (variant) with stripes. In Australia there was a now extinct animal called a thylacine, incorrectly known as a Tasmanian Tiger. Sure, it had stripes, but it was more anatomically related to the dingo or the household dog. Google Images links to some decent pictures.
All in all it's nice work... has a comedic element to it.
