And now, out of the trees and the fog, I saw it again, and it come up behind him, and I was struck for fear and couldn't hardly move, let alone git a warning out of my mouth - all that would come was a real quiet crack of a whisper, which I don't even reckon he heard for how loud our hearts pounded. Poor Tom wouldn't know what hit him, and I'd be starin' it in the face all the while - we were properly finished.
