Hmm...let's see? It would be very close! (Some people think that Discord would win easily, but this time it's not just about how much power you have, it's more about what your power IS, and what you DO with it!)
DISCORD:
Discord can bend reality, and manipulate things. However, it never really seems to be very DANGEROUS! It's mostly just little tricks and jokes that create chaos. Plus, he never really tried to HURT anyone, he annoyed them and mad them depressed ,sure, but he never intentionally harmed anyone. He could stop the chaos, if he wanted to.
KING SOMBRA:
Sombra on the other hand, is NOT a nice guy! He wants power, and ISN'T afraid to get his hooves dirty to get it! He also specializes in the art of DARK MAGIC, fuel by hatred and fear, and creates sharp, jagged crystal shards as black as his heart! Also, utilizing his high intelligence in wielding Dark Magic, by setting traps (Some of which that could actually kill) that catch and/or signify the intruder's whereabouts, so he could know if anyone was snooping around.
Discord would probably be hard to catch, and hard to predict.
Yet, King Sombra would be even MORE powerful than he was in his episodes, because he wouldn't be weakened by his shadow form anymore, he wouldn't be weared down, he would be at FULL POWER! Would Sombra be up for the challenge?
In my opinion, it's hard to say...
Both are obviously very powerful beings!
So, I'll just say rather a Tie, or a VERY close victory for either!

Sombra is a dark magical genius, but Discord is stronger than with 2 alicorns combined (leaving aside the EoH.)

Sombra is an unicorn who is an expert in dark magic to the point that he made an entire empire disappear. He also can use your fears against you. On the other side, we have Discord, an entity with the power of changing realty, immortal and almost invincible. Sombra was defeated by Celestia and Luna without the need of the Elements of Harmony, while Discord showed to be unstoppable for the Princess until they used them. The only chance to Sombra would be that Discord was as overconfident as he was with the mane six, which led to his default. But, supposing that Discord has learnt of that experience, I think that Discord would win, although it would be a very hard-fought battle.

I agree with you. Discord has to be the most powerful being in the MLP universe. He can do just about anything. But his major weakness is not taking anything seriously.

LetΒ΄s set a situation: The mane six and Discord are ready to face Sombra. They canΒ΄t use the Elements against Sombra because they donΒ΄t want to take the risk of harming Discord. The battle becomes really intense. The mane six fight with all their strengths, while Discord barely intervenes for one reason or another, maybe because he knows that his powers could be dangerous for his allies. The fight reaches a critic point, in which Sombra casts a really powerful spell leaving the mane six wounded, including Fluttershy. Discord sees this, and prepares to fight. What I want to say is that Discord has always showed to be playful and facetious with his foes. What if Discord always keeps his powers in a low level, because if not he could destroy reality? What would happen if Sombra had to face an angry Discord? Β

King Sombra would win. King Sombra is the master of dark magic, he has the ability to corrupt someponys mind. He can put extremely advanced trap spells like no other. He has done more power doings than Discord. Discord is only in it for the fun. If the mane 6 never interfered with Discord he would have done nothing to them intentionally because it was all just for his fun while Sombra was the exact opposite. It would be a good fight but I feel that Dark Magic is more powerful than chocolate rain.

I would have to go with Sombra. Discord cannot harm what he can't touch. And if the Nightmare Door is any indication what Sombra can do, Sombra can put Discord into an everlasting nightmare where his reality bending powers would be rendered uesless. Discord has a tendency to toy around with his opponents, not taking them lightly even openly mocking them while Sombra plans ahead, all his actions have a purpose.

Discord may be more powerful, but let's not forget what a brilliant planner Sombra is. Discord is chaos, unpredictable and spur of the moment. Discord's plans are not thought up very far in advance. Sombra is also patient and cautious, taking virtually every variable into account, while Discord is arrogant and cocky. Once Discord shows up to "put King Sombrero in his place," Sombra will spring various traps that will likely catch Discord by surprise and turn the fight in Sombra's favor.

Celestia was able to defeat Sombra, and Discord is able to break even one of Celestia's spells (door w/the EoH), so my money is on Discord.

It took BOTH alicorns to defeat Sombra, a single unicorn, and even then they failed to kill him. Sombra also plans ahead. Discord does not.

They didn't try to kill him, they tried to cast him out into the arctic (I think the creators intend the show to be too innocent for anyone to actually die, otherwise there would be no excuse for having not killed other villains. Take Crysalis for example; After all the problems she caused, why cast her back into her wasteland instead of kill her? Don't the princesses know she could strike again?). Note it also took both alicorns to defeat Discord and even then they could only do it with the Elements of Harmony, whereas they did not need them to defeat Sombra. Also, since when did planning equal success? We watched Sombra fail despite his plans (twice). Crysalis failed despite her planning (which was more elaborate than Sombra's). Since when does lack of planning equal failure? You can come up with things as you go and still succeed. Discord didn't know what Twilight was going to make of his riddle back when he first confronted the Mane Six in Celestia and Luna's castle; he just let them make of it what they would, deciding to play along with whatever they would come up with and he managed to make them unable to defeat him by the end of the episode.
