Maybe you did project some sadness into it. As artists we do that all the time. We can't help but put part of selves into our work. She does have a sad expression on her face, and body. More like sad fear, actually She poised to be hit , like she's been hit before. I don't know who or what is going to hurt her, but she looks emotionally beat up. Fatalistic, but not very serene, though.

i think you hit the nail on the head with "emotionally beat up"
maybe not serene, but just tired.

Well, you may not know if you like it, but I know that I do :3
One of my favourite parts being the title and the picture combined, it's "black", yet... it's not. There's a strange, pale-PALE-green/cream, undertone to it is so subtle yet obvious all at the same time.
I just can't find the word for it, which is frustrating, but I mean to say that it's so clever how you've added colour into what could have been a usual black and white piece, and have actually achieved far more atmosphere with your choices.
The pale colours give this look of not being there, floating, in a dream world, but not necessarily a nice dream world.
Aaaah, rambly rambly, sorry, but yes, much liking! Love the way those hands are positioned too :3

She looks so sad and lost. D:
But I really do like this. If I wasn't so dirt poor I'd /demand/ you make this into a print so I could get it and hang it on my wall.
I rather like the background texture, it makes it look so much more alive than a solid black background would. Kinda like she's in a constantly changing, frightening darkness.

I really like the hands in this. It's like they show her giving in to the sadness...

i get a Edward Gorey vibe from this, maybe its her misery and the dark black lines.
i like the way it is,
but if you need to change it my instructor would say to make it big, red and political...

that's the problem i have with art classes.... sometimes it's like having someone taking away your identity and making you into their puppet.
i know that's not the intention though.

yeah i know what your talking about. i think it is important to push yourself into unknown territory even when you do feel that you are out of your comfort zone. its just another way of learning. i always try to maintain some of my aesthetic when i verge into new mediums or areas.
i think its just a matter of balancing things, which is easier said than done.
