Description mixed media piece inspired by kurt halsey, of course, and this show i saw on tlc. "man with the 7 second memory"

it was interesting. i was fascinated. i still am.

used: cover from an old encyclopedia from 1966, gouache, pencil, old paper

the passage on the left side is kind of hard to read, but it's from einstein's dreams... it reads:
"it is only habit and memory that dulls the physical passion. without memory, each night is the first night, each morning is the first morning. each kiss and touch are the first."

Wow, this seems like it would be a never-ending hell. I've a bad memory as it is, but to have a seven second memory would be miserable. This is a beautiful series you've got and I think I'll be looking through all of it. It's so superb!

i can definitely see kurts influence and was immediately going to comment on how it reminded me of his work before i read your artist comments. i really like the fact that you left out the facial features i feel like it would have taken away from the meaning of the piece.

When I just saw the deviation it got me thinking to what's behind it all, the meaning and when I read the description it just got me mind wrapped in a real good way.

I dunno why, but I end up enjoying pictures that convey messages like these, really nice.

Einstein has such great quotes...

"Sitting for a minute on a hot stove passes like an hour, sitting for a minute next to a pretty girl on a park bench passes like a second, now that's relativity." Einstein

you should read the book. it's really interesting... kind of disturbing in a way... but maybe a good way.

wow.. that's very impressive. i love the layers of different mediums and the image of the faceless girl. it's hard to find words to describe the emotion behind it.. it's powerful and clear enough that it speaks for itself. excellent work.

I'm actually pretty speechless. That's some incredible work you've got goin' on there. The post-it note and the faceless person are my favorite bits.

oooh *_* your real media work is always so fascinating. I love this!

The story of that man is so sad v_v I learned about him in my psych class...wait, is he the former conductor? Or is it another person?

thanksss

if you mean conductor in the musical sense, then yeah, it was probably the same man. he was a pianist, and i guess that was one of the only things he could still remember.. was how to play piano.

wiredgirl In reply to mutsy [2006-02-07 03:13:10 +0000 UTC]

I don't remember hearing about him play the piano.. we watched a tape about him in Psych, and I remember his wife taking him to conduct an orchestra or something and he could do it flawlessly. '-' Amazing, but what's even more amazing is that every time he "woke up" he knew he loved his wife. there's something very profound about that.

the one i saw said the only things he could remember were his wife and how to play piano... hmm. and he mentioned "waking up" too. he kept a journal and was constantly writing that he was now awake, but then would cross out old entries and say that it wasn't true, but now he really is awake... stuff like that. i don't know if we're talking about the same guy or not, but they sound similar...

i was touched by the story...

Was he British? XD if he was, then we're talking about the same man.
