Description .. I had to make a matching one because you can't have one Queen Bitch without the other. (Pris and Scott hate eachother with burning vigour.)

She's close to crocodiles and is my character.

This picture is bursting with color. Where the picture lacks in shading (which it doesn't need anyway) it is filled with the busy movement of colored lines. The picture is also balanced very well by the right side that is almost barrens and the left that is full with so much detail. It's a great picture.

wooh, i do want those shoes!
And I actually kind of like the combination of those vibrant colours and beige... just because it isn't that harsh to look at. I mean, it's already really dynamic with lotsa things going on, so making the colours stand out more seems like it would become too much.

these feel very design-ish, which isn't bad at all; your style was never needlessly messy, just naturally sketchy, so I like how it all flows into place.

Lovely I like the color variation! Seems to stand out fine on my monitor, although it's a little confusing (I had a difficult time deciphering what the croc's body was, for example). Your art is so much fun; it always has this vibe that seems to show that you really enjoy it.

Yesss I was pondering whether or not it would pop out.. next time I might have to consider more whether or not the separate figures "melt" together O: after all this feedback I came to the conclusion that I should've spent a bit more time with this, haha..

But oh hey thanks for commenting, I appreciate the crit a lot โ™ฅ

It's not really about that, just wait until you're sleep-deprived enough and your state of braindead is perfect for making nonsense full-of-"details" stuff like this looll

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 0

objectsinmotion [2008-12-30 06:38:57 +0000 UTC]

since when do you do really good folds? i guess i haven't been paying enough attention.

this is my favorite of every notification i have, favorite favorite.

but is this complete? the beige kind of fucks with the contrast and makes all those colors and details of the lines get lost, but that is nitpickin'.

this croc character design is also reeealy fly, cool GUMS and FLESHY WHISKERS and designs in all the right places.

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

muura In reply to objectsinmotion [2008-12-30 10:42:49 +0000 UTC]

Good folds I don't think so loll. I just create the illusion that I know what I'm doing. I didn't even care if the skirt looked right, I just kept adding lines over perpectives that didn't match or folds I fucked up and oh woops look at that I guess this'll do.

I WAS wondering what was it in this that bothered me and why weren't the lines showing the way I wanted. I think I'll try and see will it help if I change the beige. It does appeal to me though, in a creamy, girly sense. :C Why is it that they sink in, is it because the lines and the beige are a bit too close to eachother when it comes to hues? Color theory is a bit of a questionmark for me, still.

You always got such cool comments, thanks a bunch.

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

objectsinmotion In reply to muura [2008-12-30 13:01:20 +0000 UTC]

it's really as much for me as it is for you, haha. hearing someone i respect agree with my meanderings is very empowering. plus i understand the pain of never hearing a constructive voice. when i see pages of "i luv the COLORRRRRRS!!" i just can't fucking stand it, i have to do something to improve the situation.

you're probably right, i am somewhat tired and haven't studied fabric at all so i get all starry eyed whenever anyone does it believably.

i think we all feel the gaze of some sort of golden standard of anatomical/perspect...ical ideal that we need to live up to to improve our pieces, but i think one should reevaluate the neccicity or even use of perfection in their pieces. because it is simply a representation.
would making the folds perfect have made this piece any better, i mean? the eye reads it just fine, and worrying about it that much may be counter-productive to the entire process.
just a thought, though. i totally understand where you're coming from - i was probably playing devil's advocate for that last paragraph there, trying to convince myself, haha.

okay i'm digressing a lot. uh i was really happy /w your response to my comment on your matthew piece, i didn't mention that.

and god i mean color theory escapes me quite a bit too, i'm just kind of following my instincts, and i'm having the same problem with this as i do with a lot of lineart, one line weight tends to really lack dimension, and something about this beige robs it further. i'll fuck aroud with it in PS to see if i can actually suggest anything helpfull...
honestly i think it is a matter of brightness. the lines/bg are too close together in brightness. that blue bg is really centering, i'd like more of it, or something similarly unsaturated like it.
i hate to say DEATH TO BEIGE, cuz i get what you mean, but i'd like it used more sparingly. like on the girl's skin, on the 'gater, on the circle bg, and something dark on all the clothes/hair.

wow haha, 5am, my state of braindead is perfect for making nonsense redundant crits like this. pardon me please~~~~~

muura In reply to objectsinmotion [2008-12-30 14:49:49 +0000 UTC]

Yeah.. I actually went for a walk shortly after checking dA so I pondered about the technical aspects of art vs. what people do with their instinct. I've always been a bit jealous of people who have the patience and skill to improve and study colour theory, how to use Painter to it's full extent, how to paint this and that, how to place every bone at the exact right spot, etc, when I'm the sort of person who draws for my own pleasure and fun without much worrying about whether things go right or not. It might be because I spent a few years evolving my "style" rather than focusing on learning anything useful, so a whimsy way of drawing is what stuck to me.

But I do enjoy drawing like this a lot more, so why not.

But, artists who have not studied anything and just do their own thing as most of the time as successful as those who can render anything they want skillfully. They might sort of be their own two categories but are both still types of ARTISTS. So in the end, it's probably a matter of someone's own preference about this thing.

Oh if only everyone could be confident about what they do and just keep doing it, while lending an ear for the occasional critism to the other direction, of course.

.. man I don't know that really had nothing to do with anything but maybe you'll feel a bit better about commenting me at 5AM now, I make as silly thoughts at 5PM.

But yeah I'd love to hear your suggestions, right now I don't feel like messing around with this anymore but it's good to try and keep this sort of stuff in mind in the future, especially if I get another problem with the lineart not showing the way it should.

The face, the lines, the dynamic pose gfsdgfds fuck, everything is wonderful. Rainbow coloured anything isn't usually that great, but, I think the vivid line art only adds to this. dsgfds

With the help of Photoshop, layers and their respective properties! I just blobbed some colours about, changed their layer to.. whichever, I forgot. Maybe Hard Light? And then just erased everything I didn't like. Messing around with Photoshop is fun, and you learn it by just trying things out, too.

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

knowhack In reply to muura [2008-12-30 21:22:13 +0000 UTC]

yeah but you can always tell really bad writing if the author really overindulges details about wardrobe.("she was wearing her favorite red and white-stripped tank top and cutoff shorts...") somehow to me I always think that the author is just describing the clothes he/(typically she) wants to wear. you see that a lot in yucky fanfiction.

I'd be interested to know what your reasoning was for coloring each line how you did. It looks totally random, but came out beautifully just the same.

Honestly I never reason anything when I draw it's just.. oh hey let's draw a line here and ooh maybe over there hurf durf, same with the colours in this one

imo I'm a bit too carefree with this stuff sometimes but it's nice to know if the results aren't atleast too aggravating :T
