Description Hey!

This is finally finished! I'm so happy with the results

About the drawing and techniques
This was made for Disney-club's coloring page contest.
I really pushed myself to my own limits when it comes to colouring and it is very fullfilling to do! I have never used my pencils like this before and I have to say that I'm a little proud This Disney-club has a lot of amazing artists who enter their contest so I really wanted to come up with something really special. And I'm happy

So I picked Vidia from Disney's Fairies for this contest. This choice didn't even have a certain reason, I barely even know this character. I just know Vidia is the bad-ass one in the group. I just liked her expression in this drawing and the drawing itself was so simple! Just a character standing. It was more of a challenge for me to make something special of such a simple drawing.
And then the colour pallette. As you know by now, I chose to shake things up to push myself to my colouring limits.
But did you guys know that every single thing on this Vidia girl is purple? Well, it is! Another challenge, haha.

Oh, and before I forget, I managed to get all the rainbow colours in here too It's one of the extra's to work on in the contest

My Inspiration
My inspiration? THE SCREAM!!
You know that famous painting with the screaming colours and that alien looking creature looking like this?
Yup, that's the one. It's painted by Edvard Munch. He used a lot of diffent bright colours, as did I. And they all blend in together.
It's very fun to expand your horizon like this.

I uploaded a second version of this drawing. I used a photoshop program to get the colours looking cool instead of warm, like the original. It can be found in my scrapbook. This altered drawing will not be used for the contest, but is just here for fun Here's a thumb:

Oh, and yes you are all right. She looks A LOT  like Megara from Hercules. Disney really went nuts with her design

Ahh I do love Vidia. She's such a bitch, she's got a really prickly exterior, but she cares really and she does have a heart. I can't reccomend all the Tinker Bell films enough! Well, apart from Secret Of The Wings because that film was awful.

I have seen this colouring page many a time and I have colouring-envy at your skills!

Ohh! Just realised something, you're so good at colouring you should probably check out JadeDragonne and her Cutie Pie linearts, I have a feeling you'll love them.

Edit: Sorry, spelt her username wrong, I'm an idiot. XD

Whao, you're right! She is amazing!!

question: how do you make a link to a person's page by typing their name?

Wonderland-Rebel In reply to My-Anne [2015-01-07 19:19:08 +0000 UTC]

Oh easy! It's the same as doing it with people's icons but instead of icon you put dev, so : dev username here : just move the spaces!

You are my new fav artist!!! Seriously, Vidia is my fav snarky little fairy and you did her so much justice. The coloring is amazing and I have nothing but love for this. Just nail it down so Vidia herself can't fast fly away with it.

I'm honestly impressed by the traditional coloting there. I like pretty everything, from the subject, to the motivation and the fact the colours collapse in all together. I'd not be able to associate Vidia with Much's scream, but still this is an incredible work!

I'm not familiar with the character, but I do like the bright colors! I also like how you inserted other shades into her purple outfit to give the picture more life, like your subtle inclusion of reds and yellows.

oh wow! thats amazing. How did you keep the enhanced colour of the art then...is it your scanner?
Great work.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

My-Anne In reply to Smiley1starrs [2014-11-24 18:35:00 +0000 UTC]

No, my scanner is crap. It has been a long journey of frustration but I found some tricks over the years. I just scan my coloured drawings and then I use photoshop to get some of my colours back. I'm really bad at photoshop and computers in general but it has something to do with shading and highlights. You can slide some bars here and there until you're satisfied. I've searched for lots of tutorials on how to get these colours back. It still doesn't look as good as the original but I've come a long way.
Thanks for the compliment

This is stunning work! The colours are so vibrant and exciting! I especially like the shaping you've done on Vidia's hair and face.

And yes, I too am guilty of thinking it was Meg from Hercules until I read the description. Whoops.

coming again to comment -again- on it, but I was in a hurry the other day... your inspiration shows nicely in this, but what I like most is your choice of colors and the textures you gave them... what material did you use??

what brand and sort are they?? they seem pretty bright and with good covering!

My-Anne In reply to MoonyMina [2014-11-02 09:28:14 +0000 UTC]

They're from a Dutch brand called 'Bruynzeel'. I also have some Prismacolor pencils but I mostly used the Bruynzeel ones in this drawing.

MoonyMina In reply to My-Anne [2014-11-03 12:49:28 +0000 UTC]

Interesting!! If ever I come across some Bruynzeel, I'll give them a try!!! thanks for this!
