I've been trying to use the botanical skills i somewhat learned last year to identify this using an online key, but without having a very detailed shot of the entire plant/actually seeing it I can't complete much of the key. That and my terms have slowly slipped away. I was debating if it is a type of orchid, but I'm becoming more an more doubtful. I am now leaning more toward a eudicot or magnoliid.
FYI, I've left this comment box open while continuing my search, so you're getting random thoughts. I've almost completely eliminated the magnoliid family.
Actually forget all of that. I started looking at lilies and they look much more similar. But after looking all the genuses, nothing looks quite like it. Might have to look a step farther.
Well, that's all I got. Most likely a type of lily.

I emailed my old Botany professor a link to this page to see if he knew, but I don't know if he'll check his email in the summer.

SCORE! It's called a passion flower, scientific name Passiflora caerulea. it is also known as maypop. The plant bears apricots.
You can thank tomsmith05 for that.

I am! Especially when I was browsing the front page and under the "newest" section I found a plant EXACTLY LIKE IT!

Unfortunately, he doesn't know what it is, either.
