An amazing sight and an impressive picture. The stocky crenellated towers, the impossibly pointed roofs, the haphazardly jumbled-up architecture, the long rickety (or so I suppose) bridge... It seems hardly believable all of it is real. This projects a conflicting atmosphere of grim strength and chaotic decay, and the overall effect really is extremely powerful -- to the extent that the scaffolding on the outer wall does not seem out of place at all (as it would in an airy kind of castle like, say, Neuschwanstein), but rather reinforces the general mood. Now you've made me want to read Gormenghast again !
