Description A Dark-eyed Junco in my old Christmas tree. I put this tree out right when it started to get freezing outside. The Juncos were attracted to the tree even before I poured millet all inside of it. It provides great protection during winter feeding from both predators and the weather. Frasier Firs tend to stay pretty green throughout the winter so I get this type of tree for the holidays and put it outside under my feeders from January through April. After that, it becomes part of my brush pile.

Beautiful Junco! This one is different from the ones I get. They look the same just different colored feathers.

Thank you! Mine prefer the ground as well. I get a lot of them foraging all over the place!

Yes, I do! I have several types of feeders - suet, sunflower, safflower, thistle, peanut... I also pour millet in certain protected spots. I don't get a huge variety of feeder birds just yet (not like my old house, but I do get a ton of birds passing through) but I think that once more of my new plants grow in, I will attract more birds

Now that we don't have any more outdoor cats
we've taken to growing bird friendly plants and
setting up feeding stationsΒ  - here the main problem
- especially in winter - is fresh water - so, we make sure there
is lots of it out every day and are rewarded with lots and lots of
bathers in our back yard
