I actually never do submit WIP or very rarely... but I've worked hard and I am so proud: in all my life, I never drew a sky so complicated...
made while listening to Claude debussy's "clair de lune"

Thank you so much! I had to refer to so much pictures and work so hard with the colors to achieve this... I can swear that when I started the clouds I was totally sure I would fail, cause it was so rough looking at first.

We all sometimes start with worry when we see such messy brushes, but actually....often they're the best thing ti start with! It gives more clear way of drawing, things are not overdone.

thank you so much! :3 I use brushes but also I guess practice is the key and using lots of colors and brushes and ways to make it flow together when adding more colors together is a must!

ME TOO! but I am always worried(especially that I paint all the sky on the same layer)
cause it looks so lame when it's in progress and so drawing clouds is like a fight to make it look a bit better, then a bit better! then again and again but, truly, I've never been much proud of my sky.
Next time I'll totally get a random colors chart and paint from it....
that one took me like 9 different colors and then comes all their shades. QwO this sky took me 3 hours flat just for it if I delete all the time spent to think about how I was going to achieve or fix mistakes. so small details!
It is a curse you can't :C practice makes perfect and skies will always been my favorite BG to draw ever.

I'm going to have to make a better attempt at them. Like, you will catch me driving around during certain sunsets where the skies are stained with golds, blues, purples, and intense pinks and reds. I call them cotton candy skies. I adore them so much, so there's really no excuse for me not to make an attempt, eh? But this is lovely. Such a warm, relaxing piece. It's almost hypnotizing

Well, if you want to practice, you can go google some sky, then, you take a picture of a flower and if you have photoshop(cause IDK about other programs, lol)
you can go to adjustments of the colors for the pictures. Then you can adjust it regarding the flower and then manipulate it so it remains very real.
You have then a totally unique picture that you can refer on for colors!
I swear to you, it's a very good experience... it's relaxing... try to even have some relaxing music while doing it. It helps me fight the sometime repetitive arts.

Yes!! If you want, I am used to changing and playing with the colors of a picture, if you wants inspiring colors I could give you with.
You just share a pict and I can give a hand in few seconds, it wouldn't take me more and would surely practice me more.
I don't mean that you shouldn't yourself, but at the start it's easier to simply refer to a picture to actually change it's colors and fit an oc in it... it's so much to keep your head on at once @ w @
I mean, it's hard already and maybe my conception of what's easy and hard could be biased by my experiences.

It's hard, cause the pictures are taken too close from the sunset's ending, at the start of it or just when everything starts changing color is perfect. However, I still can do something with it: sta.sh/02ged8n57wml
I compressed the file, cause there is a LOT pict ^v^
some are more natural than others, but it's not what's important in a painting. Mine in here is unnatural, yet not too much to disturb... or I guess so xD

well, it's just that a photo like that will have pixelized when changing colors and not the greatest neither... but the colors are good for you to pick still.

let me see, if I lower the picture to 350 dpi
it goes from that size to: 14" x 10" ^v^ so you have quite a good freedom on that pict.

Well, I think if you save it you'll have the original size, since I didn't changed it before putting it in here.
You can go to a program and change it's size to a quality and size you desire. If not, you can ask me about this quality.
You should go and see what PPI they can manage to print and so I'll know exactly the maximum size of the picture ^v^
