Great use of perspective here, and I enjoyed the fire effect. The shine on the buttons was good too. It's an ominous tone for sure. Definitely a new spin on what Mario should look like. I liked the angle as well. It doesn't look copied, and the use of color and shading is magnificent! Well done!
How long did this actually take? I've seen you work, and something like this is a given for you. It's a standard I hope to achieve someday, but for you, no this is not your best work. It's wonderful, but at your level you could do much better.

This piece me took me about 6 hours to conclude, top to bottom. Yes, I know, I'm so slow. I am aware that this is not my best work, and perhaps it lacks some ambition (although it is understandable, considering the source for inspiration that I mentioned in the description). Truth is, at this time, I lack confidence with my human drawings, since most of my skills were acquired with ponies. I'll have to do the transition one step at a time, and Mario is a simple enough design to work with that I was sure that I could do a reasonable job with it.
I'll try to do better next time.
