Description Ok, yeah so I did this for my Art History class. We had to create a piece of art in the style of the artist we were researching. I chose Titian, he was a great portrait artist(among other things) and ocassionally painted Italian women. Cristina Scabbia is an Italian woman who just happens to be the frontwoman of Lacuna Coil. I thought it'd be perfect. Doing a portrait (sorta) of an Italian woman using broad brushstrokes(most of the time) and with a red dress thingy (Titian's trademark color). Long story short, my teacher didn't see a connection and talked to me condescendingly about the piece for the entire class to watch. Mrs. Rufino...for the record...FUCK YOU!

Anyway...here it is. I can upload the .PSD file if anyone wants it. But it's big(for dial-uppers, poor saps...I was once one), like 20 MB.
Not perfect but I've already merged the last psd file and saved it, so I won't be fixing it. See if you can find something I missed. There's a prize in it for you!

Donna...if you could only see the picture I'm painting right now...you'd realize why this picture was scrapped. Well...the painting is due in class today so after I turn it in...I'll probably work it a little better and then post it. It's amazing how much I've come. It's not fuckin...amazing shit but...for me...it's a step up.

Meh...I hate this peice so much now. That's why its in my scraps...BUT...it just got it's 1,000th view yesterday so I was really happy. I may redo it in the future sometime. Glad you like it tho.

I am a huge Lacuna Coil fan! I like this alot. I like how you chose a complimentary color of the dress for a background. I think that in some areas, like around the ankles, the skin tones are too dark and purplish. This makes her looked brused. And, in some areas, it looks too blurry, like around the hands. Overall, it's very beautiful. I really love how the face turned out. You've done very well!

Thanks for the comment. Yeah...this picture is way too old. It was my first digital painting. I agree with you...if i did it now I would have chosen better color choices. It really does look amazingly blurry in some spots and I actually HATE looking at this peice. I'm thinking...maybe re-doing it...or just trying harder on my newer digital paintings which i hope to do this coming month. A lot of people seem to like this but I still really hate it. It's not too bad tho I guess. Thanks for the comment!

I don't know ur art teacher's problem, I found it very easy to see the comparison. I think it would have helped the argument if you did some kind of greecian architecture type building in the back ground (like she's in one or something) but it's still obvious, just the same. sounds like ur teacher had a big bowl of bitch-o's for breakfast that morning, though.

Hey...sorry for the LATE reply. I replied like a week ago but it never went thru I guess. ANYWAY. Thank you so much...it makes me soooo happy that someone else saw a comparision. I swear...I saw it too. Oh and yeah maybe the greecian architecture wouldve helped...actually its a VERY good idea. Titian did stuff like that in many of his peices. Unfortunately I finished this particular peice at about 5 am the day before it was due and there was no time. I was SOOOO tired that day...I had stayed up for like 3 and a half days. Anyway...that is a good idea...I wish I wouldve had time for that. Ahh well. Hehe...thanks so much. Bitch-o's. PRICELESS!

Heh...yeah he probably didnt use an airbrush but there was no way an oill painting would have been done and dry in time. I opted for digital means. My art history teacher wasnt too pleased. I dont know what she couldve of wanted. I just tried to update Titians style a little and do something I wanted to do at the same time. And yeah I did it with a mouse. Heh....it was actually a REAL oldschool mouse and not even an optical mouse. It was crazy. But I have a wacom now. I'd like to think that if I were to redo it would look better. I'm still working on my digital painting tho. Hopefully one day I'll actually finish one. Thanks for the comments. Yeah yeah...I'm at school right now but when I get home I'm definetley gonna go thru her stuff and pick a few things. I've been going crazy these days...drawing everything. I've even got 2 peices I'm working on now which makes me happy because I havent done anyting in so long. Heh...yeah and I finally did get a tablet. I love it. I'm studying 3d animation at school and of course we need a tablet to paint textures on our 3d models. Man...I love digital painting...this was the first one I ever did.

Mrs. Rufino was a 'tard. This is lovely, she obviously has no imagination and probably expected a faithful copy of one of Titian's works rather than a modern interpretation.. I love the texture of the red and the criss cross sandal straps. SOme of the lines are a bit fuzzy and flat but overally it's an ambitious and well done piece

Hey thanks for the kind words. Yeah...some of the lines are a little messed up but I was working on this at like 5 am right before my class and with a mouse no less. I figured it was at the point where I had to just quit. Actually I had been up for 3 and a half days with no sleep and no coffee by the time I presented this peice in front of everyone. Heh...my presentation had a lot of cursing and just ranting. It was pretty funny. Thats a story for another time however. Thanks for the comment. It's definetely one of the smartest ones I've recieved in a long time.
