Description My first darkroom print which I am actually somewhat happy enough with to show. From my second session printing. The second time was so much easier. It's not necessarily an awesome photo, but I am excited to show you all my first darkroom experiences.

This was off a roll that I shot in June or July of 2006, left it to sit on my desk for six months and I finally developed in in January 2007. I remember this shot, along with a few others. Ones that stick in your mind the moment you hit the shutter button. It was a very interesting thing having not seen them till much later. Like time traveling almost.

And I dropped the entire roll of negs on the darkroom floor after just pulling them off the developer reel. This is the dust you see. I should have just immediately washed them. Hindsight is 20/20. This is all what learning is about....I'd hope.

Nice spot for a pan

this is such an amazing composition. his hat seems to be the vanishing point of all the lamps, and that really ties the piece together. the subject becomes formally part of the setting.

We love prints, we love panning, print could do with vignetting though, strong vignetting. Sev style. In the dark room. Then print on FB paper. A little more contrast maybe?

Trust me, vignetting.

I like your ideas. Maybe I should make the crazy-as-fuck Austian proud with some nice, very, cut vignetting! I liek that.

Hehe, everyone worth a damn seems to know Sev. He's such a whore

But yeah, very definitely up for the vignetting. Do it.

Good print job I think. Pretty sharp, and good exposure.

Only a few white things is a bit distracting

I think printing on a higher grad would be beneficial here, what grad did you use? Its lacking contrast, but its a good first attempt. Mine were far far worse

Awesome shot mate!

Dust just shows up some darkroom experience!

Like the printing too with the border having the neg 'grip holes' in. Proper full frame!

it reminds me of that dandruf strip commercial.

but i also know to look around that, because it wasnt in your actual shot.

i think it adds charachter.

good work.

Friend, you've got to watch your dust. Use negative cleaner if you can and the tip of a sheet of paper to clean dust off when it's in the negative holder.

As well, your developer seems a little bit weak, like it was sitting for a few days. (The blacks are at best a dark dark gray), thought that might be some funky scanning.

This is fucking badass man It's great. I would say you just need a little more working on bringing out the dark tones and making them stand out and highlighting the lighter tones so that you get an overall bold print. But this is very well done man, especially for only your 2nd time.

You may not think it's the best work ever, but you gotta admit, it's beautiful, shows a good tone range, and has a sharp subject.
Or maybe I'm just imagining things. It looks good, though.

Very nice work despite the mishaps in the Darkroom... I actually kind of like the little specs becuase then it gives the photo a little history. I miss working in the darkroom but I don't exactly have access to one at the moment... Have fun in yours!
