Description

I made a quick sketch of Marlene, the favorite girl of my handsome soft boy Corus (www.deviantart.com/myriellacha… ), also mentioned here: www.deviantart.com/myriellacha…

Some info about her (also Bioshock spoilers, and, well, Bioshock lore, so sorry if this sounds like latin to anyone :' D The city mentioned, Rapture, was built on the sea floor to create a "pure" socitedy above moral and science, where Plamids got created. Injections that can inhance humans and push evolution far beyond. Some plasmids make you summon fire at your fingertips, send out lightning to shock enemies, summon a swarm of killer bees out your arm, etc.)

She's a Little Sister, one of those who got "cured" by Tenenbaum. When Corus was first brought into Rapture for experiments regarding the Shadow Plasmid, and was recovering from some of the rather intense side-effects (like dying :' D lol), he spent a lot of time with the girls who would later be turned into Little Sisters. The Shadow Plasmid allows Corus to slip through any cracks and vents in form of black smoke-like shadow, and so he usually escaped his confinement just to spend time with the girls. Something inside him resonated with those fragile and innocent children, and they developed a bond similar to an uncle and his nieces. Even though Tenenbaum and the others weren't too happy about that, they let him do it, knowing his connection with the girls was too deep that he would just leave them behind and try to escape for real. One of the girls in particular was very fond of Corus. She was an orphan called Marlene. And even after the collapse of Rapture, where Tenenbaum thought Corus had died by drowning, Marlene was the only one who would still wait for him. Even though the world outside the sanctuary was dangerous, she had managed to venture out, looking for Corus, who later found her and took her with him. The sanctuary for the Little Sisters then quickly turned into a safe space for Corus as well, and he returned every now and then after scouting Rapture for food - and a way out of Rapture, back to the surface.

Marlene loves the color purple, and when Corus once found a purple bow at a store, he brought it back for her. She treasures that ever since.

She even made a doll of Corus out of scraps of fabric, so she can hold him even when he isn't around.

She dreams of living an ordinary life with him, maybe as butterfly keepers (which she thinks is a legit job on the surface), or with a big rabbit farm, since Corus loves rabbits.

Corus loves chocolate and usually keeps any chocolate he finds for himself, but gives some to Marlene as well.

She has the worst nightmares when Corus isn't there to tuck her in or hold her. But when he's around she dreams of them both happy and laughing (even though she's never seen Corus smile or laugh).

When drawing, she usually draws him in grey crayon. And he appears in EVERY drawing she makes.

So yes, she's obsessed with her uncle. And he loves her the most. <3

Recently those two have been on my mind a lot, because I've been listening to Bioshock Music again. Corus is my gentle boy and when I first created him I KNEW I had to give him one Little Sister that he can favor above the others. I haven't drawn Marlene properly before, so I had to quickly sketch her down. I'm not the best at drawing children :' D soo please apologize. Her colors are saturated to fit the overall tone of Bioshock, and because the environment the Little Sisters live in isn't the cleanest.

And I had to draw her somewhat properly because I wanted a reference for when I decide to draw her together with Corus. <3

So, yeah! Hope you like this good girl as much as I do (and maybe as much as Corus does).

Little Sisters, pretty much all the names mentioned above and story belong to Bioshock, which belongs to 2K Games.
