Description "...Now the phalanx of the guard of the King broke through the ranks of the Orcs, and Turgon hewed his way to the side of his brother. And it is said that the meeting of Turgon with Hurin who stood beside Fingon was glad in the midst of the battle..."

ok, yes! Yes! finally somebody other then me recognizes that Turgon loved his brother, even if he remained hidden so long. Thank you dude for this perceptive, wonderfully in-step with cannon fanart.

I'm very glad that we think similar, I'm very attached to these brothers, and I take their meeting and the subsequent death of Fingon for one of the most exciting and impressive events in the Silmarillion.

I'm glad I'm not the only one  who goes against  the popular opinion. I am very attached to them too. It really disheartens me to see the ignorance and condemnation among fans regarding turgon. Was he perfect? Heck no. Did he make bad mistakes? Yes. But this prevailing idea that he and Fingon were estranged or that turgon was a dick so to speak conflicts against the joyful camaraderie that Tolkien paints of them in the Battle of unnumbered tears.
So thank you for sharing this. Even if the battle ended so badly at least they got to see each other again.
I'm sure turgon probably lived with survivor's guilt after that.

in justification of Turgon I can say - I couldn't leave Gondolin that was aforethought by me, built with my own hands and the most beloved as well.
As for me - Turgon is a wonderful leader and patron for his people, was able to gather around himself such a constellation of elven lords, and was completely deprived of Thingol's stupid arrogance. To cut in short, I like him, no matter what ))

He definitely lacked thingol's arrogance and bigotry. Turgon's biggest mistake was trusting in the safety and secrecy of his walls against the advice of ulmo. Although he ultimately realized this before he was killed.
It's really tragic to see how his one big mistake led to that fatalistic attitude of his that let him into staying behind.
But yeah I agree he was a good character and King.

You're right. The only thing I would fault turgon for is his refusal to listen to the very Valla that helped him to stay safe in that City. I mean if the vala is warning you that morgoth is going to find you and to flee, I would listen to these Valla that was only trying to keep me safe.

Apparently, it was some kind of obscuration of mind, but he paid for it with his life.
Nevertheless, Gondolin is number 1 in my top-10-list "must see in Arda" )

Yeah he did and it was so sad. That whole chapter of the fall of gondolin was probably the saddest history of Middle-earth that I read. I was ecstatic to see just the few mentions of it in The Hobbit movie.
And heck yeah on visiting gondolin. I definitely agree. I also would really like to see himring too. And barad eithel.

This is so wonderful! The emotional moment of their reunion, and the darkness and battle all around them. I just love it!

This is a great moment. I always thought that one thing about Gondolin was sad despite all it's grandeur - and that's Turgon being very isolated from the rest of those that were dear to his heart, his brother and cousins included.

Oh, this is a very touching moment for me too.
Reading about  their meeting, I always worried - did they even have enough time to talk?
And it must have been Turgon's great grief, when he being aware of this brother's death had to leave the battlefield...

Thank you so much for sharing my emotions!

Мне вообще ВСЕ нравится, но стяги на ветру говорят о том , что "мы" победили - за то и нравятся))) А шлем и экипировка - огонь))

Thanks a lot for your comment! Frankly speaking, armor is my weak spot, so I'm really flattered.
