Description This was a contest entry for "Army of Two" for weapon design. I wanted to make a shotgun because it's my favorite weapon in video games. It's called the Compact Shotgun for two things: One, is for it's size and able to wield it one handed, and two, is for inside of the barrel that is shaped slightly like a funnel to slightly decrease the spread of the shots without clogging up the barrel; that way it gives it a bit more range and does even more damage up close.

Unfortunately, the people couldn't upload this image even though I follow the instructions precisely as well as submitted on time. I wasn't given a chance to show it to everyone.

Anyway, I'm kind of glad that it wasn't in the game because it wasn't that impressive. There was hardly any upgrades for the weapons compared to Resident Evil 4 (which is awesome!). And I can't imagine what it would look like if it was "Pimped Out" and painted gold.

That's just a striker.

Yes, you're right.  It's based off a striker shotgun, which I actually first heard about it in Resident Evil 4.  The only difference I was trying to make was its funnel design so that the shots don't spread far enough as most shotguns.  Now whether this idea will actually work in real life, I'm not so sure.  After all, this design is just for a video game only.

Oh, but it's still cool.

This design is great but my only thought would be to lengthen the barrel about 2 inches. So that you could get a short stroke pump to clear the chamber in case of a problem with a round.

Semi automatic cylinder mag are good for can, but why a rifled barrel for a typically smooth bore weapon?

haha yeah it would look funny "pimped out". I liked the game for the story mode but I beat it with my cousin in one day and haven't played it sense. Great looking little gun though. Personally I wouldn't try to shoot this with one hand though. I've got a real 12 gauge shotgun with a pistol grip and it kicks like a mother. My advice, hold on tight!

great shotgun! But without the "pump it" grip under the barrel it losts half of the fun

Why in hell do you call this compact? That's one of the bulkiest designs ever! Anyone who's seen every shotgun type would know that tube-fed would be the best.

The name of the "Compact Shotgun" is found within my comments. I called it that for 2 reason: 1) for it's smaller size so that it is light-weighted and if possible it can fired with one hand (as long as they can handle the recoil of the shot), and 2) I tried to fix the disadvantage of how shotguns have a short range since the shots spread out so far once fired, so I tried to introduce a slighted funneled barrel to compact the shots a bit so that they will spread less without making it too narrow so that the shots wouldn't clog the barrel and destroy the gun itself.

As for why I choose semi-automatic is because it can hold more ammo and it will take less time to reload it if I had another magazine ready instead of loading one shell at a time.

I guess I can understand why you consider this as a bulky design because it might be hard to figure out how to carried off-hand due to the cylinder magazine. But when I designed this shotgun, I wasn't trying to make it realistical so that it can be used in real-life; I only thought on how I can turn this into an awesome weapon with huge advantages for an action-shooter video game like "Army of Two."

I hope this comment helps you understand my thoughts better for the design.

There are semi-auto tube-fed shotguns, that are slimmer than the revolver design, and others are shorter. Muzzle choke fixes the "spread problem", and do you really think a huge cylinder is light enough to fire one-handed? And I won't say anything bad about designing something to fire one-handed, as impractical as it may be in most situations.

You know, I when I was designing this, I haven't looked at these semi-auto tube-fed shotguns at all. Most of my inspiration came from Resident Evil 4's Striker Shotgun, and afterwards, I looked at real designs, information, and details of the Striker. Could you give me some examples or names of semi-auto tube-fed shotguns (is SPAS Shotgun one of those examples or am I getting it confused with something else)?

Benelli makes some good examples. SPAS is always good, and there's the Browning Auto-5, an oldie but goodie. There are probably many more, but those are the ones I know about.

This reminds me of the Fallout 3 combat shotgun, except this is way more bad-ass

Looking back, it still kicks some serious ass. It's the lovechild of a Franchi SPAS-12 and a Cobray Streetsweeper.

Would have been great in AoT.
