BEHOLD!! The new designs of the formerly-known-as-Toa-Mata, BIONICLE Masters! They're not called Toa anymore because Toa is Maori for like.....champion or hero. And Mata Nui is Maori for Great Face. Or something along the lines of that. So quite a bit of the original BIONICLE vocab is gone now. But it's not a complete loss. Also, I should mention now, that it was announced by Lego that the designs released to the public are still experimental, and may change somewhat when they're finally released in 2015.

Now before you say anything, I am aware: I forgot to give Tahu legs. But let's not talk about what I didn't draw, I wanna talk about the Toa Mata's new designs.

Tahu: I love his current design. Not too thin, not to bulky, and still retains the overall vibe of the original hot-head. Though I can't say I'm a big fan of his golden blades. I think he would've been just fine with the fire board swords. The mask though, is pretty badass. It's just a shame that none of the new masks are compatible with the original BIONICLE head system....But overall, a look I can appreciate.

Gali: Same case as Tahu. Not too slim, not to bulked up. I also dig how they managed to give Gali a feminine vibe with the inclusion of that chest piece. The mask of course still also retains the original look of Gali, namely her Kaukau Nuva, with elements from her original Kaukau. Which I like.

Onua: Some people may not particularly like Onua's new design. I am not one of those people. My only complaint really, would be his chest. Looking at the set form, the chest piece looks rather flat. That could just be the image, but that's really my only complaint. I don't think it's quite shapely enough. Of course, Onua's Pakari still retains it's original vibe, with some new elements thrown in to emphasize his character.

Pohatu: I'm glad Pohatu finally got a set form that is actually in proportion to the other Toa(save for Onua), I wasn't all that big on how Pohatu's body was flipped upside-down with his Mata and Nuva sets, even though it wasn't all that bad. But his torso is now the right side up, and I totally dig his new boomerang blades. Definitely pieces I'd like to get my hands on. His mask is also one I admire. In fact I think I can say that for all of the Toa except for Lewa. But I'll touch up on that in a bit. Pohatu's Kakama still retains it's streamlined shape, but now with the side vent thingehs positioned vertically.

Lewa: Great-looking set. My only complaint? His mask. Again, I'm not entirely bothered by it, it's more like minor nitpicking, but Lewa's new Miru doesn't quite give a Miru-esque vibe. If anything, it kinda looks like Hordika Matau. But I can't see any traces of the original Miru/Miru Nuva on this new Miru. Everything else about the new Lewa, I'm cool with.

Kopaka: Ho boy. This guy. Now, bear in mind, this may be because of the pictures we currently have, but I'm not too big on Kopaka's new design. From the looks of it, he's gotten a lot bulkier than he should be. At least around the shoulders. His shoulder pads are a little too high up, which is what really puts me off. Also, his shield looks a little too big. But those could change overtime, those could change completely when the designs are finalized. But other than that, Kopaka's new looks is fairly decent. His mask though, is just about as badass as everyone else's. Obvious callback to the Akaku/Akaku Nuva. Overall, a set I most likely will not be getting my hands on.

So there you have it. The new original Toa. I know what they're called now, but I still prefer to call them Toa. Also, from what we've seen, it seems the original gears system has come back from the dead. If you look closely at the Toa's new designs, you can see a brand-new piece that not only gives some volume to the figures, but re-implements the gear system in the arms. Though it seems kinda redundant, if you've already got ball joints on the shoulders. But, it's not something I'm too bothered by. So I'll leave it at that.
