Background story: Thorn sans was made in a lab by Gaster, also known as Experiment number 4. One day Thorn sans escaped the lab and as Gaster was lost into the void later on, Alphys became the new Royal scientist. Not much is known about Thorn sans, it is said there was an Experiment number 3 who was supposed to be his brother but the experiment was a failure and the creation didn't survive. Experiment number 2 was Mettaton which Alphys claimed as her own creation and Experiment number 1 was the Determination Extraction Machine.
