A strong gust of wind
Sweeps across her body
Taking with it her skirt.
She frantically gathers the material
Of her ensemble to secure it
Between her knees
In order to keep it from escaping
With the wind and flashing her scandalous underwear.
Oh, and her... scars
A wisp of her golden blonde hair
Gets stuck to her deep garnet lipstick.
She puts it back in place
By tucking it behind her ear
Accidentally leaving a glossy streak
On her plump ivory cheek.
While trying to wipe away the oily residue
Her journal falls from the top of the stack of books
She is holding to her breasts.
The sound of her blue, fabric-covered composition book
Landing on the cold concrete sidewalk
Rings in her ears.
Like the sound of a gunshot in a dark hallway.
Her brain registers the fact that her journal is lying on the ground.
She drops to her knees
At the sight of her open book
And she tries to gather
As quickly as possible
The notes and the lyrics,
To that song that touched her heart
When she needed comfort,
And places them into the pocket in her journal
Before anyone can see its contents.
