While trying to vent
From my frustrating day
I turn on my radio.
After tuning past the static
-And the commercials-
I stop at the sound of a familiar voice.
It’s that song.
Our song.
I sing along with Mr. McCain
While wondering if this song,
Though lyrically happy,
Ever made him sad
Like it makes me sad.
Sad that I’m here,
And you’re there.
Sad that the one closest to my heart
Is the farthest from my home.
Sad that I spend day after day
Waiting.
Waiting for you to call.
Counting down the hours.
Sleeping to pass the time.
With every day I waste
I know I am another day closer to you.
I snap out of my thought and realize
That I’ve left the station blaring
And that the song is over.
I’ll be your crying shoulder
Plays over and over again in my head.
That line hurts the most.
When I need a shoulder to cry on
You can never be here.
When I need someone to talk to
You can never be around.
I try not to let these
Depressing conclusions weigh me down.
I try to see the brighter side of everything,
As you would have me to.
That our wait isn’t getting longer,
But shorter.
That our love is the only feeling
That will last forever.
So no matter where we are
Or where we’re going to be;
In my mind you’ll stay,
And in my heart you’ll be.
