Description

This is the third project for my Drawing II class. This was an structured introduction to abstractism. What we were to do was to sketch out a still-life and change views and redraw it over the other sketch. Doing this you will create a bunch of different shapes within the drawing. We were to take about 1/3 of the things and resolve certain objects(this means we decide wich objects we would like to draw realistcally, what we actually saw. I did the top part of the bottle, a part of the burlap in the right corner, some of the leaves, a part of the pinecone, and apart of the basket, and two flowers) and the rest of the shapes we could put colors, patterns, or other objects if they matched up with the shape that was there. I did mostly colors and then put in simular desings to help make everything flow. I wanted the the top to have more cooler colors and then go warmer at the bottum.. that's why I made the make ground orange at the top and blue on the bottum i also wanted the colors to all complement eachother well so that was apart of my stratagy of where the colors went. this abstract technique was axpiremented with famous artists such as Pacaso and others.

What I didn't like about this is that I drew it too high that the top is slightly cut off... also I made things lean.. or slant.. lol i always do that But! I LOVE the colors. I love these pastels so much, so pretty and they blend so well  Everyone in the class did a good job, even if they had problems working with the pastels. Teacher was happy

I got an A

What kind of pastels did you use? Oil pastels? The colors here are wonderful. Ah, seeing the end result of your project makes me want to try this for myself! When I took my Drawing II class we mostly centered our focus on the human figure and did hundreds of quick gestures and sketches from a model. We didn't do anything like this. D:

the box says soft pastels... extra soft... they're not oil, i don't think.. The brand is Rembrant, they're like the most aforable of the good quality pastels. I know, i love the color that those produce, it's gorgeous Yeah, the only time we did something with the human form was the first project.. and we replaced our features with the apropriate shaped food But i'm taking Figure and Form next semester and that's where we will be doing drawings of people... we'll be going into the dance class rooms and sketching the dancers as they work. In our Drawing II class our teacher just wanted to instoduce us to diffferent forms of drawing and using color, cause we used no color in Drawing I. You can see other projects from my class in my 'Other' folder if you would like ot see the other ones i did. I had a lot of fun in this class

Ah, I see. I'm going to have to see if I can find these extra soft Rembrant pastels. The soft pastels I work with aren't anywhere near this type of quality. I just started using soft pastels, and unfortunately my inexperience with this medium shows heavily in my pastel paintings...

Wow, your Figure and Form class sound like they will be amazing! I know from past experience that it's quite difficult to draw a moving target, so I'd advise not to get too frustrated in the beginning. After looking through some of your gallery though, I can see you have a bunch of experience with the drawing and painting the human form. I bet you'll catch on quick in that class!

I'll definitely take a gander in your 'Other' folder, so be on the look out for more comments from me!

Good quallity pastels are very expensive... the rembrants on DickBlick.com are like $50, but i got mine for $40 cause they were on sale But they are wondeful to use, I love them very much!

yeah, these sketches we'll be doing will be super fast and messy... but if we are able to capture the human form in them then we know we're learning something i hope i can do it.. I rarely draw people from real life.

thanks!
