First, don't you mean ATtention?
Second, you are mistaken about kitsune. Ken akamatsu did say that he does admits with regret she is an underused character with a potential for a lot more backstory.
The only reason why she is an underused character is because Akamatsu tried to find something to write about Mitsune for the manga, but everything failed. The most he could do was to give her a couple of episodes in the anime with more focus on her.
I know he could've done so much better with her. If the series had lasted for several more volumes, and had we gone into her backstory, she could've been a whole lot more understandable.
Even so, she barely serves any purpose to the plot whatsoever and she could've been easily phased out of the series altogether.
Besides, Love hina wasn't all that great of a series to begin with. Why? CAUSE LOVE HINA SUCKS ASS!
Yes I said it! It poorly written, forced, contrived, cliched, illogical, unoriginal, IT'S GOT IT ALL!

Not a fan of Kanako or Mutsumi i take it (Nobody likes Naru). I'm guessing Fujisawa-san is your avatar?
Personally I liked Kitsune, if only because the author didn't really DO anything with her. Even Shinobu and Su got some more Back story in the Anime (Which sucked hard, but still) to explain THEIR presence at the Hinata-sou.
Haruka's there because she runs the Tea House and apparently acts as Dorm Mother.
Mutsumi & Naru's are there because of plot and the fact it's cheaper than commuting from their hometowns every day to attend Tokyo U.
Shinobu's there because her parents are in the middle of a divorce and she didn't want to leave her 'friend(s)'.
Su's there because she doesn't wanna grow up and marry her cousin/brother yet (He ends up marring her elder sister).
And Sarah's there because Seta = Runner up for Worst Dad of the year (Seriously, I hate that guy).
I mean, even Ema Maeda, who showed up in the Epilogue, had more backstory than Kitsune! To my knowledge the only bit of back story we ever learn of the resident fox is that she and Naru were friends in Highschool, and like Naru, she had a crush on Seta (I blame alcohol).
I'd have liked to see the rest of the supporting cast get their proper dues, even if only in the Anime, instead of the forced romantic bullcrap between Naru and Keitaro. Also, Here's hoping someone remakes the anime or at least release some half-decent OVAs like they seem to be doing with a lot of other series because honestly? The original was BAD.

For me, I like all the original character in the Manga Universe. Can tolerant on OVA.
But the character I like is :
1. Aoyama Motoko (Heh, even Akamatsu said he Love her character (got this info from his interview on 2002))
2. Maehara Shinobu
3. Urashima Kanako
4. Sarah Mcdougall (only on the Final Chapter)
Anyone can point out their good & bad of the characters, but not everyone really care why their become like that. Well, most all of the character review you point out is true.
But I Not very Fond on the TV Anime Ver. The Story Line. The Character Design. Are the WORST their can produce. But I LOVE Their Voice Actor (JP Ver NOT DUB) and The OST. I still play the song~♥
Just so u know, Fujisawa Mizuho is another Character for Love Hina, but she only appeared on Sega DreamCast Game (where she suppose tutor him & Marry Keitaro if he didn't admired to Todai (More like she was blackmail by Grandma Hina)). Her Character personality are identical to Narusegawa but MINUS the Aggressive Violents. That why she's in the drawing :3

Huh, there was a Dreamcast Game? I knew there was a few GBA games but not this.
And yeah, the Anime was shite on a shite sandwhich with a side order of shite. I will give their JVA's credit though and the OST composers credit where it's due though.
What are your thoughts on the other girls, I'm guessing you don't really care for Kitsune because, as I mentioned, they did feck all with her.

I have the 2 of the game in the DC emulator.
For me, the anime of that year are kinda design stamp on Xebec Company (if u look on Martian Successor Nadesico & Love Hina, their design look similar) because old days here use Cel Animation and the budget on making this work are to high!
I guess LH at that time was a Boom with huge success that their thought "Hey, lets make anime ver this manga, It will be great!". Well IT FAIL! RUSHING WORK! CAUSE THE MANGA WASNT EVEN FINISH YET! Their should have stick with the Game and i was Happy about it. most of it was DATING SIMULATION! THE "WHAT IF" FACTOR was hot at that time!
Kitsune was friends with Narusegawa since middle school. Goes to high school together, have the same crush with Noriyasu Seta But Konno was first to have that feeling! But because of the friendship with Narusegawa, she let him go... she actually didnt like to be in a spotlight cause of the intention she will get. Yeah, She my Favorite Character too.
