Description For the letter "H" I decided to draw two characters this time. 1st up we have Havok(one of my fav. X-Men), otherwise known as Alexander Summers. Alex's 1st appearance was in in X-Men #54, but he didn't make an appearance in costume until #58. The younger brother of Scott Summers(X-Men's Cyclops), both brothers are immune to each other's abilities. Havok absorbs ambient cosmic energy, and can release it as waves of intense energy, in the form of super-heated plasma. The Hobgoblin's 1st appearance was in Amazing Spider-man #238. For the longest time Marvel comics teased and hinted to fans, as to who the mysterious villain might be...and then it turned out to be Ned Leeds. Come on! Ned Leeds? At least the Rose turned out to be the illegitimate son of the Kingpin...that was semi-surprising(even though the story was very ho-hummish) at least! Okay then...as to his abilities, just look at what the original Green Goblin could do, and add a few extra volts to his gloves and he(Hobgoblin) could lift about ten tons(the same as Spidey...what a shock!).

This piece also marks a unique event, as it will be the very 1st of my submissions to ever use the Advanced Critique Encouraged option...so please throw some constructive crits my way!

WOW... this REALLY turned out well, m' dear. I simply love the way you've done the costumes on both of them. Their poses, as always, look very awesome and seem to fit well for the image.

The Uh.. Hobgoblin? I'm guessing that would be the guy in the hood? .... sorry I don't keep up with this side of the universe... but I really love how you've done his hood.

However, my problems are with both of his arms. His left forearm is way too short and it seems that his left arm, to where it connects to his elbow is too small. there should be a bit more muscle there to support his arm.

But DANG.. both of their facial features look outstanding.

Very nice job.

I'm trying lots of different things, both structurally and visually, with my work of late. Becky had commented how I was starting to draw extremely small knees(strange, but true), I was noticing that I was adopting other habits that I wanted to break as well. This is why the pieces that I've been drawing lately will have more dynamic(I hope, anyway) poses, and different ideas that I have not come up with as of yet....hence why I've lately selected the advanced critique option. I highly recommend that you diversify your comic book knowledge to include a little more Marvel, as there are some truly great stories out there for you to read. One that you can't possibly go wrong with: go and buy The Ultimates trade paperbacks! These are some of the most innovative and beautifully drawn stories that have come out of the House Of Ideas, in some time. Trust me on this...read the Ultimates!!! One excellent way of hopping into the knowledge factor of the Marvel U., are the old Official Handbooks from the 1980s(the new ones just aren't as detailed in the power usage dept.). They're relatively easy to find, a great read, and actually still very cheap to buy(considering these books are now twenty years old!). If you don't want to hunt those down, Marvel published recently, larger volumed sets of the old series, that you can get for under twenty dollars!!!! You'd be surprised how many hours of good reading material you have there, and there huge success is what prompted DC to come out with their very own WHO'S WHO series concerning the DCU characters. I'm very pleased to see that you like how this piece came out, as it was the 1st of the "new" work. Thank you ever so much!

I've been noticing I've been adopting habits as well. I need to break myself of them, bt I know from experience they can hard. Ick...

So far all of my Marvel reading stops at Civil War these days. Hehe. I'm tempted to start picking up Spider-Man again... but I'm still trying to make heads or tails of what's what. heh!

Hmm.. i may have to look into it.

Hehe. You're welcome.

Civil War has really impressed me thus far. Marvel's really pulled out all the stops for it! You should definately look into snagging the old Handbooks, or the trades for the old Handbooks...they're so cheap! The best way to help each other break one another's habits is to always critique each other's work honestly and fairly!

WOW!! This is defenantly one of my favs among favs! Excellent work. You have great shade variations and quite a bit of detail. Mucho kudos to you. And as your friend above mentioned, cool poses. very dynamic. My only constructive crit is that the Hob Goblin looks a little off in "demention" for lack of a better word. Though I know you feel this may be due to the pose Havok is in, I still feel as though his legs are a little shorter than what they should be judging by where his waist is. However, I do feel over all you have done a fantastic job!

Even though Hobgoblin was intended to be larger than havok, I can definately see what you mean about the stunting of his legs. I'll have to make sure and try not to do that again for my next piece! Thanks ever so much for the nice words and the good crit, as it's exactly what I'm looking for!

Is one typically that much larger than the other or is that just the way you drew it? Nice drawings though.

Yes, Hobgoblin was purposely drawn larger than Havok, so he wouldn't just be hiding in the background. Think of it as if they were not actually sharing the same space with one another. Thanks for the comment!

Why thank you very much! It took a lot of graphite for old Havok to come to life!
