Description I went to Midoricon, an anime convention, and bought an alpaca/ llama stuffed animal... I have since been inspired to paint llamas, and it is likely my new favorite animal... lol.

This is acrylics, ink and watercolor on wood, I only used white acrylics so I didn't have to waste my white watercolor.Ā

Llamas have such sweet eyes, which you captured here perfectly.

I've always wanted to paint on a piece of wood like this, but have yet to get my hands on some. Our trees here are too 'spindly' to get anything good out of.

May I ask if there were any difficulties you ran into painting directly onto wood? Or advice for a first timer?

I'm a bit inexperienced too, but I have a few things I can recommend or talk about. Make sure the wood is sanded as smooth as you can get it, rougher spots catch your paint in awkward ways. If you like to mix water with you paints like I do, just be careful adding too much, as it will start to seep into the wood and follow the grain outwards, so if you're trying to be neat about something it will go out of your lines some. If you want to do an acyric painting, if you're hoping to but a clear finish over it, I would avoid thicker application as it might make it difficult to get the finish on flat. I had this problem with the rougher areas on wood that I didn't sand, it took many coats to look decent. Overall, I would wood as a medium is very easy to work with and I wouldn't worry too much about the technicalities, it would be alot funner to experiment and enjoy yourself the really special thing about painting on wood is the wood itself, make sure you make good use of it in your painting!

Painting on wood is the bees-knees. That is one good looking llama.
