Description This is a small preview of my semester project. I photographed my mother, who has a very slow-progressing form of ALS. Eventually, my mother won’t be able to do much on her own, and she’s taking it a day at a time, doing her best to slow down the progression with medication and therapy. I admire her so much for her strength and optimism and wanted this series to give some insights into how her life has changed, and hasn’t.

Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis or Lou Gehrig’s Disease is a disease which causes motor neurons to die, meaning that people lose voluntary muscle function and there is no known cure.

However, some progress is being made. In 2014, a viral trend, the ALS Ice bucket challenge helped raise over US$115 million for the ALS Association and they have continued to use the donations to not only fund research, but also to improve the lives of people affected by the disease.

If you’d like to contribute to this cause, you can donate to the  als  Association here: www.alsa.org/donate/
