Another one from a while ago. It is a little warm up sketch I did before a painting.Well, time to get back to work! Thanks for looking!

the colours are so warm! I've been trying to get more into digital stuff but I can never find a way to draw the lines witch colour that works. Is there a particular method, way you work by? e.g. do you tend to keep the lines on a separate layer?

Yep! The lines were on their own layer with color under them. Open a new document, create a new layer, draw your lines (or merge them all together after you're done drawing, but make sure it's separate from the background layer), then Lock the Lines layer. The lock button is that tiny checkerboard near the top of the layers palette. Once your Lines layer is locked you can paint like normal but the new paint will only show up on your Lines layer.
But I suggest painting your colors under the Lines layer first before your paint your lines. Create a new layer under your Lines layer and paint away. Then you can go back to the Lines layer and paint them while being influenced by the colors and values you chose for your undercolors.

I don't usually do things with a lot of line work, but when I start a painting my Lines or Sketch layer is always separate. It's on top of the painting at a really low opacity and I erase it as I go. However, I always keep an extra Lines layer (hidden from view) in case I screw up (and erased the wrong lines and I can't undo) and need to look at my lines again.
