Well i use a size four brush but i make the image size 5000 so the brush wouldn't be too big or too small cause i don't like to make the brush a size three.
About how i paint it i use the magic tool and then shade it with the pen tool.

when ever i use the brush tool, andd like for eg i draw a complete circle and paint the inside i get a then line between the cirle and the colour i added and sometimes its to difficult to get rid of

If that happens which happens to me alot you use the pen tool and right click and then you fill path you can find these tutorials on youtube that's where I learned how to use photoshop from.
