Finally x_x This guy was actually supposed to be the first one in this year's monthly "animals in hats" series... in january. But university said no, but here he is! Better late than never, eh?

This year I want to do all kinds of animals and not just owls, so I put scraps of paper in jars with different kinds of animals and hats on them and draw a pair each month. For January, my two prompts were "gecko" and "fez". I immediately knew I wanted to draw either some kind of scholar or a merchant. After looking through some photos with this wonderfully smug face, I knew what he had to be.

Also... I think this might be my first time painting on hot press paper with only gouache. Not that different from cold press, but I love how flat it looks.
