Jak 2: Bath Time!! Final part

Panting heavily, Dark’s claws scraped the ground as he ran on all fours to increase his speed and distance from his pursuers. He knew he wouldn’t be able to keep this up, though. Tearing around the corner, he ran until another bright light shone right in his eyes in front of him. Skidding to a halt, he shielded his face from it, cursing his luck…again. Another barricade was right in front of him. Bravo, Torn…looks like someone thought this through. He turned from the vehicles in front of him to the ones behind him. Damn, he was trapped! He looked around frantically for a way out of his predicament.

“No use trying, Jak. Come on. Let’s get you back to headquarters.” Torn called to him, but Dark wasn’t giving up so easily. There was an old building to his right. He turned to Torn, staring into his eyes. Torn held the gaze, his heart beginning to pick up its beat again. Then, Jak smirked, and Torn raised his eyebrow. Then, Jak bolted for the building, avoiding gunfire as some of the soldiers fired at him. “Jak!” Torn shouted as he disappeared into the darkness. “Ashelin! Tess! You two stay here and keep an eye out. I’m heading in myself.” Torn removed his gun from its holster. He jumped from his zoomer and immediately hit the ground in a stride, following Jak into the building.

Watching his pursuer enter the complex from a hole in the second floor’s wooden floorboards, Jak smirked. Looks like Torn was going to take some risks, eh? He blinked as he felt something stir within him for only a second. “Hmm…I won’t kill him. He’s a friend…but it doesn’t mean I can’t amuse myself…” he muttered, grinning at the thought. No way was he going to get himself caught now.

He stepped cautiously, tattooed face wracked with nervousness. Closed quarters, a place that’s falling apart, and a rampant monster running around it? Sounds like a fun time. “…where is he…?” He kept his gun at the ready, pointed at right in front of him in case Jak wanted to use him as a scratching post. His eyes slowly looked around each area, trying to see all of the places someone could hide. He was glad his eyes were adjusted to the dark already or else he’d be running into everything. The silence was almost suffocating as he waited…waited for something, anything, to happen. He got his wish. Before he could even jump backwards, something came crashing down from the second floor right in front of him. He skidded backwards, making sure to stay on his feet. He knew he’d have to be on his toes for this. Coughing through the dust cloud as it settled, he kept his gun barrel trained on the figure in front of him. “Hello there, Torn…”

He froze. He stayed rooted to the spot, watching those claws gently click together, the grin on his face, the intensity of his gaze. He didn’t dare make a move first, knowing how unpredictable Dark was. “Easy Jak. Don’t make me shoot.” He had the gun pointed straight at him. Jak’s only response was a laugh. “Don’t make you shoot?” his voice made Torn flinch almost. It was far from Jak’s calm, warm voice. It gave him shivers just hearing it. He slowly approached Torn, black eyes fixed onto his target. Torn only backed away a little, his fear keeping him at a distance, but his determination keeping him there. “By the time you pulled the trigger, my hand would be around your neck…” he gripped thin air, a gleeful look on his face. He was enjoying watching Torn squirm. Every action he made kept him on edge. He kept walking towards him, seeing Torn’s face harden as he put a finger on the trigger.

“Jak. Don’t make me do this.” He told him as he got so close Jak could claw him to pieces if he wanted to. He still wore that grin, though. It didn’t seem to faze him one bit. His claws flexed, getting ready to attack. Torn couldn’t move. He was paralyzed. “Move dammit!” he told himself as Jak got closer, but his legs didn’t listen. He was just about to pull the trigger when a loud *clang* surprised them both. Torn snapped out of it to see Jak with a confused look on his face. He then staggered around a little before falling to the ground. Torn looked from Jak to the figure behind him…which had a metal pole in his hand. “Nice timing, Sig…” Torn said, trying to keep himself from stuttering. He was shaking all over now from realizing he had almost would’ve been shredded.

“No problem, chili pepper.” He smiled, tossing the pipe behind him. Ignoring the series of clanging noises that ensued, Torn put his gun back into its holster. Sig hoisted the now unconscious Jak over his shoulder. “Good thing Tess called me when she did. You looked like you were in a bind.” Sig eyed Torn as they walked out of the building. “I was just afraid I’d have to shoot the guy…” he shrugged; secretly glad Sig came before he could. “Let’s get back to HQ…it’s been a long day…” Torn sighed, motioning Ashelin to return to the underground’s base. She nodded, and signaled to the soldiers. Torn jumped onto his zoomer, exhausted from today’s little fiasco. He barely acknowledged Ashelin telling him the shadow was back, just wanting to get some rest…

Back in the underground’s base of operations…

“Hmm…I think I know what’s wrong.” The young Samos concluded as he inspected the awake and now growling Jak. “He began to transform just before he was knocked unconscious, therefore this form took over while Jak was still out cold…” Samos nodded. Torn leaned against his desk, arms crossed. “He will probably be back to his old self by morning.” The sage looked to Torn, who only nodded slightly. “So…we just have to wait till tomorrow?” Daxter asked. “Oh no. I’m not letting him off that easily…” everyone turned to Torn, who hadn’t said a word the whole time they were there. Slowly he got up and walked over to Dark. “I didn’t forget the whole reason we went after you for, Jak…” he had a smirk on his face that even made Dark a little worried. He then slowly held up something white in his hands. A fresh, new bar of soap. Jak’s eyes widened at the realization of what it was, and desperately tried to get at the ropes that bound him. Tossing the soap to Daxter, he turned to the ottsel. “Hey, furball…be sure to get behind his ears…”

The next day, Jak was back to his old self. He awakened that morning with hardly any recollection of yesterday’s events, but wondered why he smelled like soap. Torn refused to say anything, but Jak could swear a smile tugged at Torn’s lips whenever he tried to ask. Ashelin and Tess weren’t much help either. As soon as he could, he asked Daxter what had happened after the metal heads attacked. “Oh that…haha…funny story there…”
