Lets face it, Near is just the creepiest character out of Death Note...
...and that is saying something...

Who is for you then? I usually see people find him adorable, even those who otherwise hate him.

Honestly? Ryuk has his moments, same with Near. Though I struggle to identify anyone in Death Note as 'adorable' as the universe for that series is rather twisted :'D

I meant adorable looks. Personality wise noone is a cute/adorable type coz of the style of the anime. But I find Near admirable.

Ooooh looks wise, I'd say L definitely is in the creepy/adorable group with Near, Misa usually makes me want to kill her with a frying pan. The shinigami usually look more appealing then they should do which adds a strange charm to them... But yeah, out of most of the characters personalities, Near is slightly more balanced for strangeness/intellect then the rest of them.

I don't really find L adorable, to me he looks like a slob and also I have a thing for wavy hair like Near has. Shinigami appealing? XD Good point about Misa, though she would win the cuteness contest.

L isn't so much of a slob, he just seems much more relaxed. You see it how they direct his dialogue, he seems very low on energy and more run down through concentration then a slob would be. Though I do see your point, I guess the wavy hair thing kinda swings it for you though? ;D Yeah, Near is more or less focused then L was in a more lateral thinking sense though, making him much more charming in a way?
Eh. Seeing how the creators would go on to create female characters, I tend to see why they rarely include females with more depth then: "OH MY GOSH, BOY." As in Misa's case, they dropped a bomb by leaving her so dull and ditzy. She just became irritating eventually. Though on the surface, they did a good job not over-doing the 'cuteness' or making her too 'sexualized' at least.

Wavy hair FTW. But Near became my favourite first for his character rather than for his looks, I fell in love only after a few rewatchings when the plot didn't confuse me so much anymore. I like quite everything about Near. To make it short, I didn't like he lied, though nobody is perfect and he lied only to Kira as a part of investigation, never to his allies. To them he was honest and very open with his thoughts. He could also stop copying L to such extremes, coz I preferred him right for the parts he differed at. I would tell him how I value him for who he is, not for who he is trying to be, nobody ever appreciated him for himself, only as a candidate for L.
I never disliked Misa, despite reading a lot of negative stuff about her. She is an interesting character that adds colour and comic relief, but I wouldn't want to meet her (she would kill me fast as I'm on Near's side, heh. And even so, she had no problem with killing her friends for Light...)

You've made a very good case there for Near, one I do use myself for those ignorant 'Near Vs. L' arguments/discussions. Though about Misa, I really just dislike her for how it swung to annoyance/relief when it really didn't need it. Though I will agree she is a rather strong contrast to the majority of the main cast and really does bring it down to another level at times when it's needed too. She is still one of those characters I'm not going to like even with all she did bring to the story and how her actions did make waves within the characters at times.
(Well what else would you expect? She shows the more 'simple' method of dealing with such 'problems'. Just erase them from the picture. In a way she -is- the most human of the cast...)

Misa came with some clever ideas too (the tapes or Higuchi's confession) but she didn't think very far ahead so in the end it played against her.
The most "human" to me was Soichiro and also Matsuda, he was the normal one among the geniuses, someone a viewer can also identify with. And also Rem, ironically, since she says how she hates humans but protects one of them to death.

Well yeah this is what I was commenting about before, how they did write her in as a crafty yet short sighted individual. Which got replaced by an airhead eventually. Out of the supporting cast I would have said any one of those officers had been pretty well nailed for the feeling of "human", having dealt with such individuals on a matter not long ago. It strikes me now just how much Matsuda actually acted with more '3D feeling' leaving alot of the others rather, "2D/flat". As for Rem, well I guess she was written to show more how even someone even as 'great' as a shinigami can fall all because of a 'human'.
I always held it that because Rem was always so distant within the Shinigami realm that she only really ended up bonding so much emotionally originally from curiosity from how one shinigami would protect a human to ending up experiencing more or less the same fate.

I liked all the NPA. Every chara has some good and bad points about them, that's good. I couldn't stand Takada and Mello, both for their pride - and Mello for the criminality. Eventually he saved Near so I at least credit him for that, too bad he didn't come to senses sooner. If Mello cooperated, there would not be a second season though.

Indeed, it gave them a lot of depth and made them that much more believable. Eh I wasn't much of a fan for Mello, though Takada kinda needed to be written that way. Mello wouldn't have co-operated either way or else his whole character would've been much less interesting, plus it wouldn't have worked given his character and backstory. Though when he saved Near, I wouldn't say he 'came to his senses', though I wouldn't really know what else to say about Mello really. Never really cared about his character.

Heheh, now when you mention it, I didn't care about Mello and neither about Matt when I watched first but the fandom connects them all together so I gave them all more thought later.
I thought of an alternative ending to DN, when Mello doesn't suddenly act so weird which led to his death, and stays alive (it's in one of my older journals).

Yeah I tend to avoid a lot of the various fandom 'connections' as some are just plain fanfiction whilst others are just wild guesses. That would be an interesting ending I would have to say.

I like to explore what if while sticking to the canon (at least with keeping the characters' behaviour IC). And I like to RP, both serious and crazy. I end up making everything serious though.

Fair enough, I kinda stopped RPing as the crowd I was with started doing some 'strange' RP's. Though the crazy Rp's where always a bit of fun. I don't see anything wrong with messing with the canon IF you are taking it away from the canon and doing something else instead of trying to tie it in with the original canon >_o

Every fan will have their AU, I like to meet people with who I can share mine and we have fun and are happy. That's nice. I also find inspiration to create in such occassions.
