So two things:
"Da" isn't actually Russian right? After reading some of the 4koma, I realize that Russian's distinctive "da" was actually just the short form sentence ender-thingy (so, like, in Naruto, his catch phrase of "Dattebayo" is more like "-ttebayo" at the end of the sentence).
And two - when I saw the title, I like totally lol'd and almost fell out of my bed. I was seriously thinking I was gonna see Ivan and Alfred with microphones and duking it out via song (although, Love is War and Magnent might be more appropriate songs for that xDDD)

It's both a Russian way to say "yes," and a way to end a sentence in Japanese. Fans just prefer to do the former 'cause verbal tics are fun-gates. X3

Ahh, I see. Makes sense then, although it makes me twitch when some people tack it on to the end of sentences a la Yao's "aru"

Mm, it shouldn't be added randomly. For me, it goes kind of like this...
Acceptable: "You are alright, da?" or "Da, I am fine."
Not Acceptable: "I am not alright, da," or "It hurts, da."
The latter two don't make any sense. ._.

Ah, yeah those acceptable works fine if it makes sense which, normally, most people don't bother to do.

Ah I see. I don't think I know anyone who knows Russian other than you (although the Polish Grad Student might).
And yes, those songs are awesome.
