NEXT STAGE by MuryokuP & AO ft Megurine Luka - An Original Project DIVA PV Edit (Concert Edition) by xtokashx

THE CONCEPTION:
I was entranced with "NEXT STAGE" the very first time I heard it back around October of 2011 and I knew I had to make a Project DIVA PV edit. Next to "Romeo & Cinderella" and "Dancer in the Dark", it ranks up there as one of my most favorite vocaloid compositions. It's generally my policy not to make a PV edit of a song that has already been done by SEGA or anyone else on Youtube or NND. This is to prevent cross comparisons, preconceived ideas of what it should look like, and accusations of artistic plagiarism. However this is a song with which I had to make an exception. "NEXT STAGE" already does have a PV edit out there on NND which is pretty awesome and I did take a couple cues from it as a token of respect. It's a bit intimidating and arduous to try and live up to the standards and expectations of those outstanding master editors on NND. I have never felt adequate compared to them and I'm almost embarrassed to post my stuff next to theirs. But I am hoping that I can at least show a glimmer of aptitude and justice toward the outstanding musical masterpiece contrived by MuryokuP (無力P), the composer and producer of "NEXT STAGE".

THE FORMATS:
This has been three months in the making as there are not one but three different versions: a Concert format edit (this upload), a life-size stage format edit which has been specifically created, aligned, and mastered for use on Shinji's life-size stage (aka 39diyMMDConcert, the creator of MMD Live and the VLP Project channels) which he will be shooting with his live action cameras. And then there is a standard PV edit edition which you can view by clicking the link at the beginning of this video.

THE CHALLENGE:
My goal was to create a believable non-stop dance routine using Project DIVA 2nd / Dreamy Theater 2nd that would be convincing enough to place in a live concert setting. Shinji and I proved this was a possibility with our short small test of "Ochame Kinou" on his mini stage. The next step was to go all out and see if it would work in a life-size setting. This proved much more difficult than I initially anticipated. With a PV edit, it's easy to cheat as I can cut away each scene and start and stop a dance routine at any point. With a live concert setting, the character is in constant view of the audience and she just can't disappear or change up a dance routine to something completely different without it looking fake, unnatural, and unconvincing. I'll admit it still doesn't live up to the quality of the SEGA concerts only because they are able to use a non-stop motion capture performance made specifically for each and every song. But I think it's about as close to the real thing that the Project DIVA editor can deliver.

AN INDESCRIBABLE "THANK YOU!" TO MURYOKUP (無力P):
Not only do I enjoy MuryokuP's music but I contacted, requested, and received permission from him to create a Project DIVA PV edit for "NEXT STAGE". I cannot thank him enough for his kindness, understanding, flexibility, and willingness to allow some random nobody vocaloid fan like me the use of his works. So I feel an obligation to do my best for not only him, but for all the vocaloid fans around the world who also love and appreciate his music. So MuryokuP, thank you so much!

CONCLUSION
Whether or not I lived up to this challenge I will leave to the viewer's discretion. But I do truly hope you enjoy this Concert Edition PV, the standard PV Edit version, and the other upcoming stage capture by Shinji in the weeks to come.
