Description
During November I was taking part in Huevember. Every day I posted a drawing based on a hue, but I decided to draw 30 mermaid in different hues. She is number 13 .
Inspiration
This mermaid was inspired by the minerals fluorite and it's usual beautiful isometric cubic shape (here is a picture of it calvinchimes.org/wp-content/up… if you are interested 😄)
Fluorite (also called fluorspar) is the mineral form of calcium fluoride, CaF2. is a very popular mineral, and it naturally occurs in all colors of the spectrum. It is one of the most varied colored minerals in the mineral kingdom, and the colors may be very intense and almost electric. Fluorite has interesting cleavage habits. The perfect cleavage parallel to the octahedralfaces can sometimes be peeled off to smooth out a crystal into a perfect octahedron. Many crystals, especially larger ones, have their edges or sections chipped off because of the cleavage. -
The word fluorite originates from the Latin word fluere which means "to flow". -
Fun fact:
Pure fluorite is colorless. When fluorite is colored it is because of various impurities (Foreign material, such as elemental additions, within a mineral's structure that are not part of its integral structure ) Fluorite’s hallmark deep purple hue is the result of a small number of fluoride ions being permanently forced out of their lattice positions by irradiation or heating. When they move, an electron is left behind in each hole. When light hits the crystal, it is absorbed and re-emitted by these electrons, producing the colour we see.
Fun fact 2:
Many specimens strongly fluoresce, in a great variation of color when it is exposed to UV light it can be used to determine from other minerals and materials. In fact, the word "fluorescent" is derived from the mineral Fluorite.

Pretty interesting concept, and nice execution ^^
Sadly, the knee bend kinda ruins it :/

It is not about liking the pose or not, it is about how knee poses are illogical for mermaids. Fish don't have knees, nor does dolphins or whales, or most orther things adapted to life in water. So why would a mermaids have them? Also, it should be possible to make a quite similar pose without bending the non-existing knee.
Not that any of this matters of course.

A fairly understandable reason. I do not blame you, a lot of people make that mistake.
I have been meaning to get around to draw something illustrating the issue, as well as probably a few exsamples of how to do it instead. Basicly, you shouldn't look at a mermaids tail as a leg, but rather as a continuation of the tailbone, making it much more flexible.

Would probably be wonderful. Perhaps I should try and draw something like that myself?

I love the design and all your cool factoids about fluorite. Lovely art with a side of learning! Always a sweet combo.
