Description

During November I was taking part in Huevember. Every day I posted a drawing based on a hue, but I decided to draw 30 mermaid in different hues. She is number 28

Inspiration

This mermaid was inspired by green Tourmaline, also called Verdelite, belongs to a group called Elbaite, which is a member of the Tourmaline family (here is a picture of the mineral:www.crystalvaults.com/images/c… ). She will be the last  mineral mermaid this  huevember, which I personally find kind of sad and a relief in the same time. 2 more mermaids to go.

Tourmaline is the most colorful mineral is in the mineral kingdom.

Tourmaline ( /ˈtʊərməliːn/ TOOR-mə-leen) is a crystalline boron silicate mineral compounded with elements such as aluminium, iron, magnesium, sodium, lithium, or potassium. Tourmaline is classified as a semi-precious stone and the gemstone comes in a wide variety of colors. Tourmaline is not a single mineral, but a group of several closely related minerals. The tourmaline mineral group is chemically one of the most complicated groups of silicate minerals. The most well-known members are :

Schorl species: Brownish black to black,

Dravite species: Dark yellow to brownish black,

Elbaite species:
- Red or pinkish-red—rubellite variety,
- Light blue to bluish green—Brazilian indicolite variety (from indigo),
- Green—verdelite or Brazilian emerald variety,
- Colorless—achroite variety (from the Greek "άχρωμος" meaning "colorless").

Tourmaline was highly desired by royalty in the Far East.
The last Empress of China, Empress Dowager Tzu His was in love with pink tourmaline. Tourmaline became valued in Europe when the Dutch began to import it from Sri Lanka in the early 1700s.

Fun fact:

Ancient Egyptians believed that tourmaline originated in the earth's core . Legend has it  that tourmaline has so many colors  because of it travels along rainbows where it captured the rainbows' many beautiful colors.
