Sadly I don't do much traditional art these days (except for the endless doodles at school) though birthdays offer a good opportunity to break that habit. This is a drawing I made some time ago for my mom, showing two wonderful species from Africa; the African elephant and the Cattle egret. Sometimes one herd of elephants may have double or triple their number in Cattle egrets walking alongside them, ever on the lookout for any insects that are startled out of cover. I always love the contrast these two species create; the small, fluttery and elegant egret, who is lucky to see his seventh year of life, and the enormous, eternally wise elephant who may live to be sixty.

The (somewhat silly) title is a joke on the fact that Elephants are referred to as cows, bulls and calves, just like the cattle the egret is originally named after.

O yeah. They used to be so difficult - now I name my friends with scientific names - like Passer Rutilans, Loxodonta, Uncia uncia and many more. Last time while sitting among orinthologists I said something like "Its definitely saxicola caprata", their jaws dropped, they asked me again - "you told you were in engineering department, how you know this."
See birding is fun and knowing scientific names is fun too.
keep on drawing. you are pro illustrator

Haha, so cool to be able to wow other people with scientific names. Some of them just sound so elegant (while others are simply impossible to pronounce), and it definitely makes things a lot clearer so everyone knows what species you're talking about. I can't say I'm all out with bird scientific names (I do know most of the cetaceans) but I'm more of a 'little bits of everything' - sometimes a scientific name will actually pop up in my head and then I have to google it to find out what animal it is XD Thank you so much

Eheh i just found out there are around 10K species of birds in the world! Will it be possible to watch them all - and obviously learning their names
You're welcome!

Yeah the number of birds is astounding. I learn about a new species almost every day, the diversity is simply fantastic! I couldn't imagine studying insects though - more than a million species have been described and scientists estimate there's some 5 to 9 million more to be discovered. Try learning all their names haha
