Description Chapter 5
I hadn't realized I had dozed off until Ryan woke me in the morning with a cheerful smile and a growling stomach. I scowled at the werewolf and realized I would need to feed in three days. Ryan continued smiling at me and then he spoke.
"Do you have anything to eat around here?"
"Under normal circumstances, you'd be breakfast so no." I replied stiffly, "I have no food because I don't eat food anymore."
"Anymore? So you used to eat normal food." I sighed and stood up.
"Yes, but I'm not going to talk about it."
"You're Van Helsing's granddaughter, so you were once a normal werewolf. What happened?"
"If you want me to get you something for breakfast, you will stop asking such annoying questions."
"You'll buy me breakfast? I didn't think you liked me."
"I don't and right about now, I'm thinking about not feeding you since you complain and I know how dogs are. When you start feeding them, they will keep coming back. So, if you want breakfast, stop asking questions."
"Okay. As long as you don't mind spending money on me."
"I have so much money in so many banks from working for five centuries straight, that I wouldn't even mind wasting it on a present for Samantha."
"You don't like Samantha, do you?" Ryan asked as he followed me out the door.
"Gee, what gives you that idea? And what did I say about asking questions?"
"Sorry." We walked into the elevator which took us to the ground floor and all the people who were awake stared at us as we walked by since they weren't used to me being with anyone else.
"Good morning, doc." the new morning security guard greeted me, "Mac said you had a friend with you. Is he a relative?" I rolled my eyes.
"No." I answered, "He's my shadow who talks a lot." The guard laughed and went about his business as we walked out of the building. As we walked down the street, people began to greet me with "Hello, doctor" or "Good morning, doc." When we got to a small diner at the edge of the city, Ryan looked at me and I could tell he had another question.
"Go ahead and ask it." I snapped, unable to take the look on the werewolf's face. He waited to ask his question until we had been seated and he began to look at the menu.
"For having no friends, a lot of people know you. Are they not your friends?"
"No, they're not. They are my patients at the hospital, where I work."
        "What about the security guards?"
"They act friendly towards me because I help pay them when I pay rent. Now, shut up, order something, and eat." It took Ryan five minutes to decide that he wanted a large helping of pancakes and I nearly had a heart attack when the waitress came up to our booth.
"My, what a handsome son you have." she said with a friendly smile.
"He's not my son." I said with clenched teeth.
       "Oh…uh…sorry."
"Forgive my friend." Ryan apologized, "She's always like this. I'm ready to order now." I gave the werewolf a look of daggers as the waitress walked away to put his order in and he just smiled back. That's what annoyed me most about the werewolf: he was always so happy.
