Description
Weighing in at over thirty tons, the towering Greater Forest Hemox is a colossal wonder of cryptozoology. Covered in rough, barklike skin several inches thick, the Hemox spends much of its life sleeping and sunbathing, top of its food chain.
The hemox is an ambush predator which can move at an unbelievable speed, their forward sprints taking prey by surprise. This is tempered by their relative inability to turn - not just while running, but even when still - the hemox is very poor at bringing its long body around to face other directions. They can only charge in a straight line
This is not the only tool in its arsenal though. The Hemox posesses mighty lungs, and it is the only known ambush predator which -announces- its presence before charging. Its roars are so intensely loud, and directionally focused, that they tend to rupture a victim's eardrums. It is a common sight for a terrified deer to attempt to flee, only to stumble, fall, and crawl around in circles, as it completely fails to stay upright or move in a specific direction
Unfortunately - or perhaps some would say fortunately - these natural traits of the Hemox have failed to adequately prepare it for a world occupied by humans. Its colossal size has made it an easy target to track, and a worthy one at that. Its slow turning capabilities have made it vulnerable to ambush itself, especially from multiple angles or with ranged weaponry, and its hide - although thick- has proven inadequate against modern armour-piercing bullets.
The Hemox is a critically endangered species, less than 400 individuals remain in the world, and hunting them is strictly Verboten. Someone certainly didn't expect to run into one here
