Description
I'm going to post some historical photos and decided to start with a mystery.
WHO IS THIS WOMAN?
From the clothes, I guessed that the picture was from World War One. It's obviously some sort of military uniform, note the corporal stripes and shooting medal. America did have some female volunteers in military service and from the flags on her hat, I thought she might be with the Signal Corps. On closer examination, it seems that the right-hand flag MIGHT be the US Stars and Stripes while the left-hand flag looks different, MAYBE a state flag, which suggests a state militia unit.
Photographers went around the Army camps to sell their services to solders and some could make postcards. Since this one was unused, it's a dead end.
I've sent a few copies to the Women's Military Museum, but they couldn't identify her.
