Another disappointment for me...I worked so damn hard on this and spent almost 8hrs total, and I really don't like it one bit. You can't convince me otherwise. This image concept had sooooooo much potential that was really overlooked. I was just way too tired to put as much effort into it as I had planned. Yes, I believe it's nice - cause oh boy, it could be much worse. XD; But still, I'm not happy. So I swore to myself that I'd either draw a new Gaara pic or try to CG the lineart for this one. I'm not sure yet.
Inspired by my fangirlyness over Gaara and the song by Incubus called 'Under my Umbrella' respectively. Lyrics can be found [here] . Indeed, there is blood in that sand but it wasn't with any other reason except to even out the use of red on the right side. Next time I draw him, I think a sunset will work much better and maybe his trechcoat design instead. >3

Extreme apologies for commenting on an old piece, and one you find so poorly done but I've recently been smitten with Gaara as well and this is great.
The coloring looks great as always with your other pieces, and his clothes are excellently done. The red umbrella catches my eye first, than I look at his face... There's a name for that when the whole piece draws your eye from just one object...
It looks like a traditionaly-done scene from the show, it's that good, you shouldn't beat yourself up over it.

I personally can't understand why you wouldn't like how this came out, but I guess since I'm not the artist I don't know what you had in mind. But if you ask me, I think this is really impressive. You draw the human profile really well, lineart is beautiful and smooth, with just enough detail and texture in the background to be interesting but not annoying. Coloring is smooth and shiny and well blended and overall just really impressive. I like how you took into consideration the fact that the umbrella would cast a shadow over Gaara; most people forget that umbrellas block the sun as well as rain. And I like the blood in the sand. Unusual imagery, very nice.
I haven't watched Naruto far enough to see Gaara yet, but so far Haku is my favorite character. He's so pathetically tragic~ (Though, admittedly, I like Kakashi too. In fact, he's really the only main character I can stand o_o; )

Yeah, I spent the whole day watching the marathon xD; I was going to go to GameStop instead, but once I started watching I totally forgot. I wish I had the money for manga, but sometimes I think $10 per book is way too much when I can watch it on TV, even if the story comes really slowly.
And as for the comment, no problem; it's my job xD;

Gaara is more of that goth/emo/w/e stereotype...though there was soem aprts taht made me smile. Very ncie concept. Not bad on the love word.

I agree with these folks, it looks really good, I love the way your coloring just seems to be soft and blended. Is that a big gourd on his back? I've seen them used for like water canteens, but thats cool ^^
