Dont think ive done anything like this before, as in step by step

Anyways thought id show you guys how i do my drawings
This unicorn, was originially going to be done traditionally via pencils and sketch pad..but guess whos ran out of paper, so after throwing a tantrum i whacked out my GIMP and tablet

1. no i dont just scribble and it comes out like this, after alot of numerous scribbles a million attempts, random shapes and cursing i finally got something that i liked
2. just fill in the gaps, again trial and error until im happy and evrything is (almost) in proportion, do the final outline
3. add little line details, hair is done on a seperate layer, as was the horn
4. splodge down basic colors, its a chimeric horse hence the odd coloration
5 and 6. detalls, start throwing on shadows and lights, i start with a big brush at low opacity, and as i get closer and make it stand out, smaller brush size and higher opacity.

Thats it for now, still need to color hair and hooves and decide what background to put it to,
so far its taken almost 3 hours
