yeah it just doesn't have the jagged markings of a usual sabino. plus the horse has a black marking around the eye. I just really confuses me lol

a lot of people get the sabino and splash gene confused, since they are so similar. I know i do sometimes ^^ for example , below is a link to a horse which I thought at first was a minimally marked splash. But then I did some research and found out that this particular horse was actually a sabino. From one side, the horse looks like a splash... The genetics confirmed that this particular horse, a bay Arabian stallion named Khartoon Khlassic, was a sabino...not a splash (since the splash gene does not exist in the Arabian breed as far as we know, but the sabino gene does).

The conclusion I have come to? Horse genetics are awesome and you never know WHAT you are gonna get when it comes to horses!

wow! what a horse! splash and sabino are so closely linked together because they are both considered a part of the overo gene. The overo gene is common for causing blue eyes in pinto-colored horses...including splash-white and sabino horses. It could be too that the TWH horse carries BOTH the sabino-splash gene (a combo of both...nSb-nSpl)...that MIGHT explain the "eye liner" (the black around the eyes and the black lip markings...usually you see this in splash-white).
Of course, I'm no expert when it comes to horse genetics and colors. I study the heck out of the subject since its so fascinating to me, but I learn new things every day ^^
For example: dominant white horses are very rare...and normally can be distinguished from gray colored horses by the pure white hair and pink skin...and from cremello/perlino horses from the pure white hair and dark colored eyes (where as a double cream dilute will have blue eyes). BUT...again as I was doing some research into the Arab horse color genetics, I found a dominant white PURE Arabian horse...with an almost fully blue eye and the other eye had brown and blue flecks. Another thing I discovered is that the dominant white gene, in the Arabian, is a "miracle" color...no one knows where it comes from! Its call the "nonsense gene" for both parents do not have to be carries of the W gene to produce a foal that carries the W gene. Interesting huh??
