Hmmm... gives me fanfic ideas.

With the entire concept of chunnibyo in this show (with the possible exeption of dekomori herself) being something of a escape mechanism from reality (yuuta and rikka's stemming from the loss of a parent, satome's later evolving into something to push away her crush on yuuta), thier chunib selves fit perfectly into what in IRL psychology deems as a persona, a mask to face the outside world.
ergo, it would perfectly fit for thier chunnib selves to be a persona for them, or at least a mythological being similar to them.
