Description Moses

in an effort to constantly become a better artist, I have attempted to merge my contour drawings and my value drawings.

I am very pleased with the result... but why stop here? I have but scratched the surface of what you can do. Though I am proud of this, it hardly stands up to the original Moses statue by Michelangelo.

size: 42"x30"
material: charcoal pencil and white pastel

It;s simply brilliant! I love the effect of the pastel and charcoal...but the background is the simple paper?

Thank you. I have been so inspired by your work. Do you do any blending, and if so what do you use?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

napoleoman In reply to McSho [2008-12-08 23:10:06 +0000 UTC]

It really depends... since I mainly use vine charcoal I do almost all the blending with my hands... but I do have a paper blender stick. This particular image was different because it incorporated the white pastel or conte... so I really hand to blend it to make it look how I wanted it to. Still... I think I only used my hands on this image... and an eraser...

McSho In reply to napoleoman [2008-12-09 16:14:37 +0000 UTC]

Thank you so much for this information. The vine charcoal and conte mixed create fantastic tones. I can't wait to try blending with my fingers!

why does moses have bunny ears? :<

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

napoleoman In reply to LychiCambess [2008-01-01 06:31:14 +0000 UTC]

They are actually horns. The original sculpture has them as well. It was because of a mistranslation from the Hebrew source. The description of Moses descending from the mountain could have either been talking about horns on his head or rays of knowledge around him. That's why the iconography associated with Moses is usually the 10 commandments and horns.
