I agree, though the new version of Pennywise in the 2017 ItΒ movie looks scarier now than when he did 27 years ago

I'm waiting for the DVD, but it looks like it will be way better than the Tim Curry's one. That one was good, but more because of the actors (to be fair, I never found Pennywise's design scary, but Curry's performance made up for it. The new one looks closer to the book description.

I've never read the book nor seen the old movie since I have a bit of a coulrophobia of clowns. I blame my phobia on seeing Killer Klowns from Outer SpaceΒ as a kid on Svengoolie. TmT Strangely though, I'm not afraid of jesters, the Joker from Batman, or LJ. (probablyΒ felt bad for Laughing Jack being abandoned by the boy and was exposed to horrible violence from all of the murders the boy did)Β Β

I don't like clowns either. It's not a phobia, but I just don't like them in real life (yeah, people go to hospitals and cheer kids up, okay, that's great, but I just don't like them).
I feel sorry for LJ as well. There is a limit to what living beings can take before they snap. I like that while this makes us sorry for him, it doesn't stop him from being quite a scary character. It's not easy to keep this balance.

It's funny. Mom said that when I was little and first saw a crazy clown at a party, I got scared and cried. Now, I'm not scared of them anymore. And I like LJ! He's fun!

I never liked clowns. Not that I'm scared, I just don't like them... And "It" didn't help that. I wouldn't say LJ is "fun" (the word that comes to mind is "scary"), but damn, he is one of my favorite creepypasta!

Same here! His story is one of the best, while it makes understandable why he became like that, it actually adds to the character (instead of just being a weak excuse that tries to make him more likeable despite what he does -God knows I've seen "sad backstories" that are so forced in trying to make the character pitiful that it is boring, while the "he's evil for evil" tends to work ONLY when the character is VERY well build). It's tragic and heartbreaking but you know he is way beyond redemption...
Damn, like I said, one of my favorite creepypasta!

Same here, alongside Sally, Slender, Masky, and Jane. I really got upset when I saw what made them, and everyone else, turn into what they are now. It's not their faults, it's the people who did it to them.Β

I haven't heard of Slender's origin. Was it made by the creator or fanmade?
I know, right? Like they say, monsters are made. Anyone can become one.

Life is not easy and so, sometimes, it's normal to have dark thoughts from time to time. If you feel this is more serious than that, like you're losing control or falling into deep depression, seek help. You don't have to deal with those things alone, believe me.

It's not most people care anyway. The fact that I tend to be shy and how I was raised made them think something was wrong. Honestly, I think something is. I have a hard time feeling true emotion. It's rare for joy, can't remember the last time I cried, and I mostly just sometimes wonder if I could make them feel pain, will I feel anything?Β

This is really funny! I actually was laughing out loud and everything! I must say, the girl is my hero. she is so unimpressed with him haha! I would consider adding a little more irritation or anger to her when she is disrupted. All I know is when my wife is reading, that clown would have been dead if he interrupted her! Although i can see why the last two panels were added, I think they kinda toned the humor down, That's only because i don't really like gory things. Overall, it was funny, well drawn and executed.Β

Actually, the girl is me. I just read/watch so much horror that I'm just not fazed anymore XD Unless you show me a cockroach, then I'm running for the hills forgetting everything (my pride and dignity included). I'm with your wife, being interrupted while reading is already annoying, but with a monster-clown yelling and spitting all over? Cue berserk button and someone dying.
Thanks again!

Pennywise only comes out every couple of years. LJ doesn't get a break. He's on murder clock 24/7.Β
Plus, I think Penywise can be killed. As far as I know, LJ can't, so yeah, LJ would win.Β
π: 0 β©: 1
Nara-Wolf In reply to ncalkins1 [2017-09-24 19:48:49 +0000 UTC]
That's true, but on another hand, Pennywise has the advantage of being able to change forms. Perhaps he could take the form of something LJ is afraid of? (If there is something he fears).
Yet, like you said we don't even know if LJ CAN be killed....
And that is if they didn't become pals in the middle of the fight and decided to go on a killing spree together... (Oh, craaap)
π: 0 β©: 1
ncalkins1 In reply to Nara-Wolf [2017-09-25 02:05:01 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, that would be trouble for everyone. But I think LJ likes to play with his food more than Pennywise, I'm not too sure because I've never read the book or seen the movie (I'm a chicken), but I do know Pennywise has a time limit to kill. so I think they would get along for a time, but if Pennywise stops wanting to "play" aka torture, then I think they would start fighting.
Plus for some reason I have trouble seeing LJ working with anyone. He might try it, but I think he would almost get jealous of the victim showing fear towards someone or something else. He likes to be in the spotlight. So I think sharing with Pennywise would get on his nerves, and he might do everything he can to prove he's scarier.Β
So if we're lucky LJ would start fighting Pennywise for being a poser or something. lol

Nara-Wolf In reply to ncalkins1 [2017-09-25 06:11:40 +0000 UTC]
That's true. Pennywise is not even an actual clown, he (it) is a creature that can change into what you're most scared of (he tends to use the shape of a clown in order to lure children when there is need of a bait). He tends to go after children because their fears are less complex than that of an adult, being easier for him to see and use. It's not that he has a time limit per say, but in every 30 years, he wakes up, hunts and feeds, then goes into hibernation (And want a nice, nightmare fuel trip? It is a female and in the book, when the group comes back to fight it as adults, they find it had laid eggs. GOD, STEPHEN KING, WHY???). He can go for a slow way of killing (and twisted too), but I'm with you... I feel Laughing Jack is way more into playing with food than Pennywise. Not that Penny can't be a sadist (believe me, it's the second nature of this thing, but... LJ wins this round)
And I also don't see LJ working with anyone. I really don't... And he probably wouldn't like at all that there is a creature that can be as feared as he is (or even more, depending of the person). I think they would fight over territory, per say. But since Derry (the city) IS Pennywise's hunting grounds (in his views), I think they might leave each other alone as long as they didn't cross paths. It would be the most beneficial route for both...
Oh, I can see that happening XD Both starting to argue over it and the children they want to kill are just "So... We run off, hope they will end each other or what?" And in the case of the children that fight Pennywise, they would probably start to think about how to get rid of LJ too.

I guess whoever wins, we're screwed. LJ is pretty strong, I think it would be hard to Penny to win against him, even with his form-changing abilities.
