It figures that my first Hobbit fanart would be an AU. Ewelock on tumblr created this wonderful Princess Mononoke-inspired AU where Bilbo would have been raised by the Eagles of Manwë. The dwarves are under attack by Orcs, and Bilbo arrives with the Eagles to help, but hasn't really seen dwarves before so he's understandably wary towards Thorin, who in return hasn't the faintest who or what this tiny armed person in front of him is. Headcanon also says Bilbo would use a small curved knife resembling an eagle's claw as a weapon.

Thorin's stupid armour nearly killed me and that is a very simplified version of what I could make out in various screenshots and promotional photos. I'm sorely tempted to draw him shirtless from now on if only to avoid the shitload of detail that goes into that outfit.
