I had this idea while snowboarding last week...well actually, i had loads of ideas...a whole book of them! I'm going to be working through them all eventually.I thought an emoticon for art collaborations would be a good idea. I went over the possibility of a trendwhorey using computer ones, but it just wasn't pheasable. So i went traditional with a nice picture of a tree
Actually my biggest emote yet, at 160 frames, and it took me about an hour to do. It was a nightmare to animate, and I ended up using multiple layers for different hands as well as being behind and ugh. At least the hard work paid off.
Photoshop wip screenie is here , and I decided to post it for the emote competition just for a laff.

There will probably be another.Edit 2: Woah...seriously messed up the animation. Should be sorted now.
Edit 3: Edited the colouring once again. I apologise. However, I think it looks better.

Now this is a pretty applicable emote for dA , and, It's animated quite well.
I have no faults against the animation at all.... But Shading could use a bit work, It looks to flat, a snazzy animation won't get you with out a snazzy stylish shade to match.
Do away with black borders, they are to harsh on ligher emtoes such as your pink. You want to add a shading style that makes the emotes look 3D, a couple of shades does mean properly shaded at all. If you chose to do it by pixel, then you'll use around 7 shades to do this, taking lighter, darker , colours that compliment each other to do this, or sometimes, do not compliment. For your blue I'd suggest a dark blue or purple outline, depending on the colours you use it may raise or lower in brightness and darkerness. For your pink, a red, or a purple colour for a border...same applies as it does for the blue on brightness and such.
In shading it pixel wise make it look like a sphere.
If you chose the latter and go gradient, Then take a look at * budgieishere 's style .
Also you may want to add a border around the paper, a pale blue...darker than the white enough its noticeable...Not to sure so you might want to test my advice and depend if you want to use this part or not.
Its animated really well, and I do really like this one, it just needs some better shading, which I think you can do easily if you put forth a little bit more effort.

I took your advice and changed the shading a fair bit...the emoticons mostly, but adding the blue around the paper really brought it out...cheers for that.
The border change has really made it better I think as well...any last thoughts? (Sorry If I'm spamming you.

Looks much better, the only thing i would suggest is make the eyes and mouth dark colours of the emote (Dark blue, Dark Pink-Red) make it dark so it stands out but don't make it near black, do the same, add a 1 pixel border of a dark colour around it, better define the edges. thats really the only things lacking, other than that good
