Description Download for a very large 3008x1880

This entire piece was made from scratch using stock images, paper scans, and screencaps. I suppose it would classify as a photomanipulation.

For anyone looking for a smaller size, I will update with my livejournal link when its done.

The piece was inspired by the pre-surrealist artist Giorgio de Chirico who had this technique of adjusting shadows and perspective lines to make distances and perceptions look distorted, so his paintings always looked really wacky, brooding and dreamlike. Here's a cool gallery for anyone interested [link]

I used this technique a fair bit in my piece e.g. the wrong-way round shadow on the telegraph pole, the dark shadows inside the car which shouldn't be there considering the light source, the weird lighting on Dean, the left background eye-line doesn't match the flat right-hand side ETC blah blah. Anyways, I worked on this for three days and I'm really proud of it! Comments would be

At firs it looked so strange to me. I mean those shadows and perspective-thing... It just looks so surrealistic! But after while I realised that this is exactly what makes your work special and why I simply can't stop staring at it.

Thank you! I was aiming for a surreal flat landscape so dream-like is pretty spot-on

i LOVE how you've done this piece. the textures and blurring of certain things make it feel like an old photography that has been looked at hundreds of times. i also love the use of the shadows. overall, great piece.

Thank you so much! I'm glad you noticed the shadows because those were the things I worked hardest on in order to get the mood just right. Thanks again for the lovely comments - and also the faves D

This is really fantastic! You did a marvelous job; I love how the varying textures draw the eye around the piece.

Btw, in regards to PederDingo's comment above (you may already know this but... thought I'd add my ):
- If you use the DA scaling option, the larger file can still be accessed by the general browsing public if you enable the 'download original' option. The scaling would tend to dull all of your marvelous textured details though, so I can see why you prefer larger versions!

Thanks! It was really fun to play around with this one, nothing like my normal style lol/

I've actually been thinking about with PederDingo said. It seems that there are more people accessing my DA than I thought. And I don't really wanna f*** up their screens you know?
And now I'm kind of confused . Its all good, hopefully you can help me before I mess up in my next upload

OK, so if I say upload this image, and scale down to say 1280 or something, than the person downloading can still get the original size of 3008 right? And the image that will be shown will be in the 1280 size when you click on the image? I HATE resizing but I think my sizes are actually kind of ridiculous lol.
Also, can I upload several files (as in wallpaper sizes) to one piece, or do I need to make a zip file first before uploading? I might just host everything at DA instead of on photobucket.

Thanks in advance, yo

Yep. Here's what you do:

1.) Upload the image at the largest size you wish to make availible.
2.) Once it's uploaded to DA's mainframe, you should get a 'Fullview Size' option, allowing you to select how many pixels wide you want the picture to be on the webpage.
3.) Choose the size you wish (your options should be 'Original Size,' '400,' '600,' '800,' '900,' '1024,' and '1280' )
4.) Next, look just under the Fullview Size option box. There should be a check box that says "Allow Download of original (Full sized) version." Make sure that box is ticked, and you should be good to go. The image will display on the website as the smaller version, but will still download at the original size when someone clicks the 'download' button.

As for uploading several files under one deviation...I've never done it myself, but I know it's possible because stock artists do it all the time. My guess is that it's a zip file. Check out FAQ #816: How do I upload a collection of images or files, such as brushes, wallpapers or other? , it should help.

For some reason, I thought people would have to download the resized version if I chose one of those options *headdesk*. Lol, thanks, that actually helps.
And now I'm thinking dammit, of course there are FAQ's. I have a brain the size of a goldfish. Thanks for taking the time to explain and stuff, it really helps!

yeah the vintage texturework is well awesome by the way you can have deviantart scale the picture down when you upload

Thanks!

I tend to actually make these for the supernatural fandom on livejournal and obviously the wallpapers are usually 1280x800ish.
But I know, from my own experience, that I usually want really big sizes so the details stay on the image (resizing just gets rid of the details) because my screen resolution is 1680. So, what i'm trying to say in a really long way , is that I keep the larger version on DA for those who need/want it!

Thanks for the advice tho!
